Jay-Z and his legal team are not relenting in their quest to prove that his rape accuser's lawyer, Tony Buzbee, should be sanctioned for undermining the legal process.
The rapper's team filed a new lawsuit on Wednesday, claiming Buzbee didn't meet with the woman before filing a lawsuit against Jay-Z.
Earlier in the month, Jay-Z requested the court sanction Buzbee over a lack of basic investigation into his accuser's claims.
Jay-Z's Legal Team Submits New Filing With Fresh Claims Against Tony Buzbee
In the new filing, Jay-Z's team claimed Buzbee was an unfit attorney who preferred overlooking inconsistencies in his accuser's lawsuit rather than addressing them.
They also claimed Buzbee never met with Jay-Z's alleged rape victim before he signed his name on the complaint and before her interview with NBC News last month.
In the new filing, which Complex obtained, the "99 Problems" rapper's team said, "Initially, he [Buzbee] deflected, saying Plaintiff's 'case was referred to [his] firm by another, who vetted it prior to sending it' to him, and that his firm would 'continue to vet her claims and collect corroborating data."
The new filing also read, "Now, he [Buzbee] concedes that he did not even meet with Plaintiff before signing his name to the complaint, and fails to identify any evidence that corroborates anything his client alleged."
Tony Buzbee Labels Jay-Z's New Lawsuit 'Weak And Desperate'
The 55-year-old rapper's legal team also said in the filing, "Mr. Carter seeks only to hold Mr. Buzbee to the ethical standards that constrain any responsible attorney who would solemnly sign his name to allegations in court."
However, Buzbee remains defiant despite the new lawsuit against him from Jay-Z.
He told TMZ that the rapper's latest lawsuit is "weak and desperate." Buzbee also claimed that he met with and personally interviewed the plaintiff.
The attorney also claimed that four other lawyers interviewed her. He added that anyone who said otherwise had an agenda.
Jay-Z Wants Buzbee Sanctioned
The new lawsuit from Jay-Z's team against Buzbee is the latest development in the rapper's legal tussle with the attorney.
On January 8, The Blast reported that the "Empire State Of Mind" crooner filed a motion via his lawyer, Alex Spiro, calling for the court to sanction Buzbee for filing the "false rape lawsuit that's damaged his reputation."
Jay-Z also claimed that Buzbee failed to "conduct even the most rudimentary investigation into the shocking claims" his accuser made.
He also referenced inconsistencies in her NBC News interview, including how her father shared that he has no recollection of picking her up, as she claimed after Jay-Z allegedly raped her at a VMA Awards afterparty in 2000 when she was aged 13.
The music mogul's attorney also pointed out that MTV wasn't allowed to use a Jumbotron to air the event, which countered the alleged victim's claims of watching the ceremony at a Jumbotron.
Buzbee Slams Alex Spiro
Jay-Z also believed his accusers's claims would be "easily debunked," and should never have been filed if Buzbee did "the slightest bit of homework."
However, Buzbee responded to the calls for his sanction in a statement slamming Spiro.
He claimed Jay-Z's legal team's moves regarding the rape case reeked of desperation.
Buzbee said, "Mr. Spiro and his team think the laws and rules don't apply to them. They are flat wrong."
He added, "They also think they can bully or intimidate counsel by filing meritless and frivolous pleadings full of lies and half-truths. Again, they are dead wrong. We won't be bullied or intimidated, ever."
Jay-Z's Attorney Points Out 'Red Flags' In Alleged Victim's Claims
Jay-Z's legal team and Buzbee have engaged each other in legal warfare since the latter filed a lawsuit accusing the rapper and embattled producer Sean "Diddy" Combs of allegedly raping his client.
After Buzbee's lawsuit, Jay-Z responded by suing the attorney for extortion and defamation and cited evidence as to why the accuser's rape case should be dismissed.
After calling for Buzbee's sanctions, the Daily Mail reported that Spiro filed a 30-page motion claiming there were "glaring red flags" in Jay-Z's rape accuser's story.
Spiro also demanded measures be taken against Buzbee for causing the rapper "extraordinary harm."
It remains to be seen how this will play out in court.
