On Monday evening, Gomez took to her Instagram Stories to hit back at U.S. Senate candidate Sam Parker, who called for her deportation.

In her post, Gomez sarcastically thanked Parker for the "laugh and the threat" after he said she should be "deported" for a tearful video sympathizing with Mexican migrants.

She swiftly deleted the video in the face of mounting backlash from several quarters, prominent amongst whom was Parker.

"All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don't understand. I'm so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can't. I don't know what to do. I'll try everything, I promise," Gomez said in the now-deleted clip, which she captioned: "I'm sorry [Mexican flag emoji]."

The Senate Candidate Called For The Singer To Be 'Deported'

Gomez herself was born in the United States and is an American citizen. Her grandparents left Mexico to the country in search of a better life and the singer's family have seemingly remained ever since.

Regardless of the fact, Parker called for her to be "deported," as he accused her of sympathizing with undocumented migrants.

"Deport Selena Gomez," he wrote on X alongside the tearful video.

On another account, Parker wrote, "Selena Gomez picked illegals over America b/c she's the 3rd gen descendent of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the '87 Amnesty."

"She has an entitlement attitude toward America, like her illegal g'parents. Maybe Selena should be deported, too?"

Gomez's fans wasted no time criticizing the politicians for his remarks.

One person told Parker, "Enjoy your 5 mins of fame," while another said, "Dude, you're trash! I hope they deport you and your family! You bum a-s clown!"

An X user noted, "Your weird [as f-ck] bro, leave her alone. I hate crooked politicians."

Despite the backlash, the politician seemed to relish the attention he was getting for his controversial remarks.

He shared a post about the singer's response and wrote, "Inject their tears into my VEINS. I dragged Selena Gomez pretty hard today."

Ever since President Trump resumed office, several violent criminals have been rounded up and deported on government flights back to their country of origin.

The sweeping raids are being spearheaded by Border Czar Tom Homan, who issued a scathing response to Gomez's video meltdown during an appearance on Fox News.

"If they don't like it, then go to Congress and change the law. We're going to do this operation without apology," Homan told the news outlet.

"We're gonna make our community safer... It is all for the good of this nation. And we're gonna keep going. No apologies. We're moving forward," he shared.

Homan denied speculations that children are being targeted in the raids, saying that the Trump administration is working to deport illegals with criminal records.

"I don't think we've arrested any families. We've arrested public safety threats and national security threats, bottom line," he said.

Homan added, "President Trump won the election on this one issue - securing our border and saving lives. What happened on our southern border in the last four years is the biggest national security threat our county has seen, at least in my lifetime."

The "People You Know" singer faced backlash from many internet users and notable figures, with some branding her "shallow" and "narcissistic," as they questioned why she couldn't take action despite her reported $1.3 billion fortune.

According to the Daily Mail, British Journalist and broadcaster Piers Morgan said, "Posting yourself weeping over illegal immigrant criminals being deported is a new level of absurd celebrity narcissism."

Actress Megyn Kelly also slammed Gomez, accusing her of aiming to push an agenda that her fans disagreed with.

"She deleted it after her fans taught her that the majority of the country stands behind these policies, but I'm sure she was shocked to get any blowback whatsoever," Kelly said. "She's unwell. Obviously, this is an unwell person… And by the way, anybody who takes their phone works up in tears and posts a video of themselves crying into their phone is sick. That's a sick person."
