Nelson revealed in an interview with Vogue that the goal was to push boundaries, both for McRae and the fashion featured in the video.

“From the beginning, I wanted to do something different, and I really wanted to push the limit and do something almost a bit uncomfortable,” Nelson explained.

“Sports Car” arrives on the heels of McRae’s recent singles “2 Hands” and “It’s OK I’m Ok,” both of which maintain her signature electro-pop sound infused with R&B influences. Together, these tracks hint at the dynamic energy fans can expect from So Close to What.
