Barely back from her over-a-decade-long hiatus from Hollywood, Cameron Diaz is said to be considering quitting the industry again.
The movie veteran recently made a comeback in the Netflix comedy-action thriller, "Back in Action," but has been overwhelmed with online comments about her appearance.
These comments, which Cameron Diaz reportedly sees as "misogynistic" and "sexist," are making her question if the "exposure" from her return is worth it.
Cameron Diaz Is 'Raging' Over Comments About Her Appearance
After an 11-year hiatus, Cameron Diaz recently returned to Hollywood, starring in "Back in Action" alongside Jamie Foxx, who reportedly inspired her return.
Unsurprisingly, her return has made her more visible to the public, particularly during the multiple promotional interviews for the movie.
Amid the buzz, some fans have criticized her looks, speculating that the actress underwent plastic surgery. Some have even searched terms like "Cameron Diaz facelift," "Cameron Diaz plastic surgery," and "Cameron Diaz age" online.
Now, the actress is said to be deeply displeased with the focus on her appearance and has confided in a friend that she's considering stepping away from Hollywood once again.
"Cam is wondering if the exposure is worth it. It is like nothing has changed during her time away," a source told Radar Online.
They added, "It's the same misogynistic and sexist nonsense about her appearance. She's raging and feels like ducking out for another decade."
The Actress Previously Denied Having Surgery
In the past, Diaz has insisted that she has never gone under the knife. However, she once admitted to taking Botox injections but hated how it turned out.
"I've tried Botox before, where it was like a little tiny touch of something," the "Charlie's Angels" star said at the time. "It changed my face in such a weird way that I was like, 'No, I don't want to be like that'… I'd rather see my face aging than a face that doesn't belong to me at all."
While the actress didn't share what made her try out Botox, she has once complained that being in the industry came with being pressured to maintain beauty standards.
"I am absolutely a victim to all of the societal objectification, you know, that women, and exploitations that women are subjected to," the actress once said, per Radar.
She added, "I have bought into all of them myself, you know, at certain times. It's not hard not to. It's hard not to look at yourself and judge yourself against other markers of beauty."
Cameron Diaz's Co-star Inspired Her To Make A Comeback
For years during her hiatus, Diaz turned down requests to make a comeback, only choosing to return when Foxx contacted her.
"I thought that if I was going to come back and do a movie, the only person I'd come back and do it with would be this guy,' said Diaz in an interview with Empire.
She added, "Seriously. I had other opportunities along the way and I was always saying, "No. I'm not doing it, I've told you… What? Jamie asked? Jamie? Oh, I can do a movie with Jamie!"'
The two had previously starred in the classic "Annie" and have been friends for 25 years.
In "Back in Action," they play married former spies who were forced to revisit their past after their secret identities are revealed.
The Actress Is Undecided About Taking Up New Roles
During the interview, Diaz also revealed she is undecided about taking up far more acting projects in the future.
"I don't know how I view it. It's hard to say," Diaz told the outlet. "If I say it then it becomes this thing. I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to."
She added, "I'm not defining anything. I'm just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment."
Still, fans can be sure that Diaz will still grace the screen once again, as she is set to appear in the Apple Original Film Outcome alongside Keanu Reeves. She is also expected to lend her voice as Princess Fiona in "Shrek 5."
Cameron Diaz Speaks On Her Marriage To Benji Madden
In a recent interview with her brother-in-law, Joel Madden, on his "Artist Friendly" podcast, Diaz opened up about her relationship and credits therapy as a key factor in the strength of her nine-year marriage to Benji Madden.
The 52-year-old actress, who shares two children with the "Good Charlotte" musician, shared: "It's what we depend on, so you have that commitment to work on it."
She emphasized that therapy keeps her and Benji from doing "the same thing over and over."
According to the Daily Mail, Diaz noted that therapy encourages her and her husband to ask, "Why didn't it work? How can I make it work? What's my part? What's the other person's work?"
Diaz also highlighted how therapy taught them to be more "self-aware" and "a little bit more equipped to hopefully come out with a different outcome."
The "Charlie's Angel" star explained, "[It helps us] either resolve something or create a new understanding of a new process together."
