The award-winning actress urged networks with upcoming award shows to channel their budgets into more productive projects, such as financially empowering California wildfire victims.
Jean Smart won the coveted Best Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy award at the 82nd edition of the Golden Globe Awards.

Today, the legendary actor addressed all media houses concerned with organizing shows on her social media account. She urged them to take up a noble cause in the ongoing fire disaster in Los Angeles.
"With ALL due respect, during Hollywood's season of celebration, I hope any of the networks televising the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT televising them and donating the revenue they would have garnered to victims of the fires and the firefighters," wrote Smart in the post.
The actress headlined her opinion with "ATTENTION" in all caps to emphasize the situation's urgency. Smart's post has received more than 17k likes, and thousands have expressed their opinions in the comments.
"AMEN. Nobody needs gowns or speeches. I'd rather see pictures of lucky survivors shoveling debris, building housing, and planting trees," this fan commented in solidarity.
Another user praised Smart for her contribution, noting that her last name was very fitting for her stance. "10000 and we better take the money for the 2026 Olympics and put it towards rebuilding," this follower added in the comments.
One more user suggested that the networks also donate some money to "the staff that makes those events happen: chefs, waiters, bartenders, camera crews, etc...who depend on awards season to make a barely decent wage in this town!!!."
Per Deadline, about 2,000 structures have been severely damaged across Los Angeles in the past 48 hours, with 1,000 recorded in the Palisades Fire and 972 in the Eaton Fire in and around Altadena.
Smart's Award Run So Far In The Film Industry
The University of Washington alum's latest Golden Globes win adds to her previous Primetime Emmy and Critic Choice Awards wins. Smart, who, according to The Blast, Emerged on the scene in the late 1970s, is a 13-time Primetime Emmy Awards nominee for her impressive acting feat on television.
She has won six awards so far, the most recent being the 2024 Emmy Awards for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy. The mother-of-two has also won the Critics Choice Awards for her brilliant roles in the 2015 hit film Fargo and 2020's Watchmen.
She also won back to back in 2022 and 2023 as the "Best Actress in a Comedy Series" for her role as Deborah Vance in "Hacks." Smart is looking forward to winning "Best Actress in a Comedy Series" for the third time at this year's Critics Choice Awards, should the category still hold.
Organizers Moved Critics Choice Awards Further Down The Calendar
While Smart recorded her huge win on Sunday, January 6, 2025, the nominated figures for the Critics Choice Awards will have to wait a few more weeks to receive their ovations.
As The Blast shared, comedian Chelsea Handler will host the event, which will now air on January 26 at 7 p.m. ET/PT. In a statement, Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin expressed the organization's concern and care for the victims of the ongoing fire.
"This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected," Berlin declared.
Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment will executive produce this year's show. Dan Black at Greenberg Traurig, LLP will represent the Critics Choice Awards.
"Conclave" and "Wicked" swept the list with 11 nominations each, while "Dune: Part Two" and "Emilia Pérez" trailed behind with 10 nominations, including Best Picture.
The Best Picture category also features nominees "A Complete Unknown," "Anora," "The Brutalist," "Nickel Boys," "Sing Sing," and "The Substance."
The Growing Wildfire Forced Networks To Postpone Show Tapings
Taping for major shows has been shut down due to the proximity of some production companies and studios to the affected area.
A company spokesperson disclosed that productions of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", "Grey's Anatomy" and "Dr. Odyssey" will not take place on Wednesday.
"Jimmy Kimmel Live!" broadcast studio, the El Capitan Entertainment Centre in Hollywood, stands roughly 15 miles from the Palisades fire, making it a sensitive area for the time being.
Lovers of the popular CBS game show "After Midnight" will not get to watch new episodes for the time being as tapings are currently canceled.
Some high-profile events, such as the BAFTA Tea Party, a favorite among socialites, have also been canceled due to the tragic incident enveloping Los Angeles. A representative of the BAFTA Tea Party issued the following statement,
"In light of the dangerous winds and wildfires in Los Angeles, we are canceling this weekend's BAFTA Tea Party. The safety of our colleagues, friends, and peers in Los Angeles remains our utmost priority, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted."
The premieres of Roadside Attractions' Gia Coppola feature "Showgirl" and Paramount's "Better Man" have also been postponed until further notice.
The Wildfire Situation Continues To Escalate With Zero Containment
The Palisades fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning and has left thousands of displaced victims in its path, has reached debilitating heights.
Official sources from Cal Fire claimed that the strong winds contributed to the spread, which has forced more than 30,000 residents to flee their Palisades homes.
The Eaton Fire, which reportedly began Tuesday night in the hills above Altadena, has already spread over 10,600 acres and is still expanding its destructive force.
It reportedly resulted in at least five fatalities and spurred additional evacuation orders in its wake. As for the Hurst fires, officials reported that it started on Tuesday in Sylmar, rapidly spreading over hundreds of acres and forcing further evacuations.
Hopefully, the TV networks tap from Jean Smart’s wealth of knowledge and put their money in the right direction!
