Trey Songz is pushing back against an $11 million default judgment tied to an assault case.

This legal battle stems from a 2023 battery case where the singer was ordered to pay substantial damages to Tyrelle Dunn, a Maryland Capitol police officer.

Tyrelle Dunn claimed he was injured in a 2021 incident while attempting to remove his wife from Trey Songz's hotel room.

The R&B star is making a determined effort to overturn an $11 million default judgment in a high-stakes battery lawsuit filed by Dunn.

Songz's legal team argues that the judgment, awarded in 2024, was "improperly obtained" and that the singer was unaware of the case until after the decision had already been made.

According to court filings, the 40-year-old "did not know about this lawsuit until November 27, 2024, when he received Instagram messages from fans extending their support after news broke about Dunn's default judgment."

His lawyer revealed, "[Trey] promptly engaged civil defense counsel over the Thanksgiving holiday and filed this motion to set aside the default judgment the next week. [Trey] deserves his day in court to defend himself."

In Touch reports that the default judgment was issued after Songz failed to respond to the lawsuit—a failure his team says resulted from improper notification.

"Good cause exists to set aside the default judgment because [Tyrelle] did not properly effectuate service of process of the summons and complaint on [Trey] pursuant to Nevada or California law," his lawyer added.

The star's legal team argues that "enforcement of this default judgment will be devastating to [Trey] and will ruin his life."

The Singer Denied The Assault Allegations

While Songz and his legal team firmly dispute he was served through guards at the musician's gated community, Dunn countered Songz's motion.

The alleged victim's attorney argues that the service of process was executed correctly. Songz also categorically denied the allegations against him. His attorney detailed the events surrounding the night in question, stating:

"[Tyrelle] reported the incident to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The police immediately went to the suite at the Cosmopolitan Hotel to investigate—they separated witnesses and took their statements, confiscated mobile phones, and obtained a search warrant of [Trey's] DNA and other evidence. Over the next several months, the police conducted a thorough criminal investigation and found no wrongdoing by [Trey]. The District Attorney's office did not file any charges."

Tyrelle Dunn Alleges Serious Injuries While Trying To Rescue Wife

Last November, TMZ reported that Dunn accused Songz of assault after intervening during a tense situation at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas.

Dunn claimed his wife screamed for help, alleging that Songz was holding her against her will during the singer's 37th birthday celebration. He alleged that Songz and his security team attacked him, resulting in severe injuries that caused him to miss work.

Although Songz was cleared of any criminal charges in 2022, Dunn pursued a civil lawsuit and was ultimately awarded millions in damages. The judgment covers Dunn's medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages.

The 'Preacher's Kid' Star Reached Settlement In $25M Rape Lawsuit

Songz managed to settle a $25 million lawsuit for alleged rape, marking a rare legal victory amid ongoing lawsuits last year.

The settlement was disclosed in legal filings obtained by The Blast, revealing that the father-of-one and the plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, came to a resolution outside of court.

The documents showed that the settlement is conditional, with specific terms that were not revealed. The agreement stated:

"The settlement agreement conditions dismissal of this matter on the satisfactory completion of specified terms that are not to be performed within 45 days of the date of the settlement."

Songz and the plaintiff were also scheduled to attend a post-mediation status conference to update the court on the case's progress.

Trey Songz Was Accused Of Multiple Assaults

In the $25 million lawsuit from Jane Doe, she accused Songz of sexually assaulting her twice—first at a house party in 2016 and again at a New Year's Eve event.

The lawsuit, refiled in 2023, followed an earlier claim that was dismissed in 2022 due to the statute of limitations. Doe also named several parties in the case, including Songz's label and manager, for their involvement in enabling his alleged actions.

The plaintiff alleged that during a house party in March 2016, Songz assaulted her despite their previous consensual sexual encounters. She claims he violently threw her to the ground and raped her, leaving her injured and distressed.

After the assault, a rideshare driver reportedly took her to a hospital for medical treatment and sexual assault counseling.

The second part of the lawsuit added further details, claiming Songz attacked her again at a New Year's Eve party, calling her derogatory names and having her removed by security.

Whether these legal hurdles will derail Trey Songz's career or ultimately lead to a resolution remains uncertain as he works to protect his reputation and future.
