tWitch's Final Words: Emotional Details Emerge About His Last Conversation
By Kelly Coffey-Behrens on January 7, 2025 at 11:15 AM EST
On December 13, 2022, beloved "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" DJ and "So You Think You Can Dance" alum Stephen 'tWitch' Boss was tragically found dead at the Oak Tree Inn in Encino, California.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later confirmed that Boss died by suicide via a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. According to the autopsy and police report, no drugs or alcohol were found in his system at the time of his passing.
The documents revealed further heartbreaking details, including insights from Boss's widow, Allison Holker. Holker, who married the Alabama native in 2013, told officers that, to her knowledge, her husband had no history of suicide attempts or suicidal ideation.
Allison Holker also shared that Stephen 'tWitch' Boss had no known mental health struggles, financial troubles, or marital issues, but his journals later revealed otherwise.
A Father's Final Words
The morning before he went missing, Boss dropped off his daughter Weslie at school. In what would be their final conversation, he told her, "I wish I could be your Superman."
Reflecting on this moment, Holker told People, "Having someone say last words to you that you didn't really process at the time as being anything wrong ... that's really hard, especially as a teenager."
Despite the weight of those words, Holker praised Weslie’s strength and resilience. "She handles it with far more grace than she should have to. We took the steps to really help her and communicate with her and make her feel seen and heard," she explained.
Holker acknowledged the bittersweet nature of those final words, noting that Weslie views them as both beautiful and heartbreaking. "It's a battle that she's going to always have with herself, but I know she can see it from both sides," she added.
A Mother's Unbreakable Faith
Six months after Stephen's death, his mother, Connie Boss Alexander, opened up to People Magazine, sharing her love and cherished memories of her son.
Living in Phoenix with her other son, Connie leans heavily on her unwavering faith for comfort. "Rather than dwell on how he left this earth, I focus on the belief that this is not the end. That’s where I find my peace," she said.
Connie vividly remembers their final conversation. The day before his death, Stephen checked on her well-being while she was sick. "That was the last time we talked," she recalled.
tWitch's Secrets Unveiled In His Personal Journal
Despite his outward positivity and dedication to self-improvement—often reading self-help books and reflecting deeply on his personal growth—the depth of Stephen's internal struggles remained hidden from those closest to him.
Among the deeply emotional entries, Boss hinted at experiencing sexual abuse by a male figure during his childhood—a trauma he silently bore throughout his life. “He was wrestling with a lot inside himself, and he was trying to self-medicate and cope with all those feelings because he didn’t want to put it on anyone because he loved everyone so much,” Holker told People. “He didn’t want other people to take on his pain."
“Reading Stephen’s journals, and even going back into the books he had read and the things that he was highlighting and lining, really gave me a better perspective of where he was in life and the type of things he was struggling with,” she shared. “It did have me feel a lot of empathy towards him and sadness for all the pain that he was holding.”
