Reports have emerged revealing that the late Liam Payne's WhatsApp messages were key to charging a suspect in his death.

The singer, who plunged to his death from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony, was reportedly sold drugs twice by a suspect, Braian Paiz, according to the messages.

Paiz was later charged with supplying drugs for payment following Judge Laura Bruniard's decision to move ahead with the prosecution of the suspects in the case.

His lawyer has since slammed the charge, insisting that while Paiz did take drugs with Liam Payne, he never sold any to the singer.

Weeks after Paiz denied selling drugs to Liam Payne, he, along with four other suspects, has now been charged for their involvement in the singer's death by Argentinian Judge Laura Bruniard.

For Paiz, who worked as a waiter in a restaurant Payne once visited with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, his charges were reportedly influenced by WhatsApp messages between him and Payne.

According to the Daily Mail, the messages allegedly revealed that he had sold drugs to the One Direction star on two separate occasions on October 14, just two days before Payne plunged to his death from the balcony of his room at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires.

Paiz is now facing charges of supplying narcotics for payment, a crime that could lead to a sentence of up to 15 years in prison if he is found guilty.

Paiz's lawyer, Fernando Madeo, slammed the charges against the waiter as "illegitimate, unfounded, and arbitrary."

He also reiterated Paiz's earlier claim in an interview with an Argentinian TV station about not selling drugs to Payne, although he admitted that the two did take drugs together.

"My client had drugs for personal use, they got together once and got high together. When he went to the hotel where Liam was, he already had drugs, Madeo said of Paiz. "He wasn't the dealer."

He added about the accused, "Braian made a very extensive statement and gave all the facts. Among them, he stated that he met Liam on two occasions. Among several issues, which they did in a private environment, they also consumed narcotics but it is not true that he sold him drug."

Aside from Paiz, another CasaSur employee, Ezequiel Pereyra was charged with supplying the singer with drugs.

Hotel managers Gilda Martín and Esteban Grassi were charged with manslaughter and have been identified as two of the three individuals who carried Payne back to his room from the hotel lobby shortly before he fell to his death from the balcony of his room.

The singer's close friend, Rogelio "Roger" Nores, is accused of negligent homicide, linked to claims that he abandoned Payne on the day of his death.

The decision to charge the suspects follows leaked texts obtained by the Daily Mail, revealing that Payne had pressured hotel staff for alcohol and information on where to buy drugs during his final hours.

As previously reported by The Blast, in one of the texts, the singer expressed frustration with an anonymous bellboy after he failed to fulfill Payne's drug request.

"He invited me [in] to his room (which was a disaster, by the way) and asked me if I could get him cocaine," the bell boy said in the text.

When the bellboy informed the singer that he couldn't provide that "type of service," Payne allegedly called him "useless" and rudely demanded that he leave.

A separate text revealed Payne had also allegedly offered money to an escort to "party" at his hotel room.
