Andi Dorfman faced an unexpected health scare over the weekend, just days after welcoming her first child with husband Blaine Hart. "The Bachelorette" alum, who gave birth to a baby girl on December 20, opened up about her experience on Instagram Stories, detailing the medical emergency that led to her hospitalization.
Dorfman initially announced the birth of her daughter on December 22, sharing a heartwarming photo of herself, her husband, and their newborn in the hospital. The couple, who began dating in August 2021 and got engaged the following year, tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Italy in May 2023.
However, just a week into her postpartum recovery, Andi Dorfman began experiencing symptoms, which she described as "a ton of pain."
Andi Dorfman Hospitalized Less Than a Week After Childbirth
After trying various home remedies and noticing her condition worsening, she finally contacted her doctors, who quickly diagnosed her with “one large and one small hematoma,” a condition described by the Cleveland Clinic as blood pooling inside the body. Within hours, she was admitted to the hospital and prepped for surgery.
“It was getting worse by the day. Despite the internet saying recovery takes time, I still felt something was wrong and finally after trying every home remedy, I called my doctors and they told me to come right in,” she told her followers on Instagram. “Within a few hours, we were at the hospital and prepped for surgery. A very straightforward procedure but still pretty terming having a 6-day-old baby, plus loads of hormones still lurking.”
Andi Dorfman Urges Everyone To Trust Their Doctors
Despite the stress of facing "a very straightforward procedure," it was "pretty terrifying having a 6-day-old baby" and fluctuating postpartum hormones. Still, Dorfman expressed gratitude for her medical team.
“Trust that your doctors do truly care about your health and well-being and don’t be afraid to reach out to them,” she continued. “I felt some guilt worrying about myself instead of my daughter but realized she’s no good if I’m no good. Hope this helps anyone out there doubting their own postpartum recovery.”
She also urged new mothers to rely on their instincts and listen to their bodies. "No matter how clueless you are about motherhood, you still know your body best! Listen to it!" she said. "Yes, recovery is tough and everyone is different but your instincts are valid (and probably right)."

We are more in love with her than we could ever have imagined. I cry on the spot just looking at her and Dad is completely wrapped around her cute little finger.”
