There is going to be a whole new dynamic at the next Bezos family reunion!
Jeff Bezos announced on Monday that he and his brother, Mark, will join one auction winner on the first human space flight of Blue Origin‘s ship, the New Shepard. The flight is scheduled to launch on July 20 and will fulfill the former Amazon CEO’s lifelong dream. Bezos shared a video of himself asking his brother and “best friend” to join him on the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of traveling to space. On July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend. #GradatimFerociter,” Bezos captioned the emotional space invitation video.
“I want to go on this flight because it’s a thing I’ve wanted to do all my life… it’s an adventure… it’s a big deal for me,” Jeff said. “I invited my brother to come on this first flight because we’re closest friends.”
“Are you serious?!” Mark replied before excitedly accepting the invitation.
The Bezos bros will be joined by one lucky (and extremely rich) auction winner for the first human flight aboard the New Shepard. According to Blue Origin, the auction bidding is already at $2.8 million, with nearly 6,000 participants from 143 countries.
The New Shepard is a six-person, fully automated spacecraft where everyone is a passenger. There is no pilot. It is named after the first American to go to space, Mercury astronaut Alan Shepard, the company’s website boasts. The environmentally controlled crew capsule has the largest windows that have ever flown in space. The entire flight will only be 11-minutes long but is hyped up to be the experience of a lifetime. We know the Bezos bros are excited!
“To see the Earth from space… it changes you,” Jeff said. “It changes your relationship with this planet, with humanity… it’s one Earth!”
