Dr. Dre Declares Former Psychiatrist Is Not Entitled To Damages In $10 Million Battle

Dr. Dre's legal battle against his former psychiatrist continues, with a new motion to dismiss the civil harassment lawsuit against him.
The court drama between the record producer and Dr. Charles J. Sophy began in October when the latter filed his harassment complaint. He claimed the Hip-Hop icon threatened his safety and well-being.
The aggrieved psychiatrist also filed a temporary restraining order against Dr. Dre, revealing the threatening text messages he had received. However, the entertainment veteran has denied all allegations of wrongdoings and labeled the therapist's $10 million lawsuit as a racist attack.
Dr. Dre Moves To Dismiss The Civil Harassment Lawsuit
According to new reports, the Aftermath Entertainment founder doubled down on his innocence in the civil harassment lawsuit. He implored the court to toss the case, stressing that his former psychiatrist was not entitled to any damages, especially the $10 million he requested.
"[Charles] did not exercise ordinary care, caution, and prudence in connection with the transactions and events that are alleged in the complaint," Dre's attorney argued in the motion for dismissal, adding:
"[Charles'] lack of care, caution, and prudence were independent and unrelated to any of [Dre's] actions."
The documents obtained by In Touch further read, "Moreover, [Charles] directed, ordered, approved, or ratified the wrongful acts alleged in the complaint. [Charles] is therefore barred from recovery against [Dre], or, alternatively, any recovery should be proportionally reduced."
Dr. Dre Wants The Therapist To Cover His Legal Expenses
Besides asking the court not to award Sophy a dime, Dre requested that the psychiatrist cover his attorney fees and legal expenses. The duo's tumultuous relationship began in 2018 when the music mogul's ex-wife, Nicole Young, enlisted the therapist's help during their divorce.
Per his lawsuit, Sophy revealed that he was chosen to mediate their divorce and worked "fairly" to help them resolve their disputes. However, he claimed Dre had been problematic from the start, noting that he took "his frustrations about the mediation out on [him]."
"Frustrations that manifested themselves in the form of a nearly year-long sustained campaign of late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence and homophobic rhetoric (e.g., 'You're a b-tch,' 'Cat got your tongue?')," the therapist alleged.
The Psychiatrist Claims The Record Producer Wouldn't Stop Harassing Him

After Dre and Nicole settled their divorce in 2021, Sophy claimed he had ceased all communications with the Death Row Records co-founder. However, the latter continued harassing him with threatening and insulting text messages.
One alleged text from Dre to the psychiatrist dated April 25, 2023, read: "Hey doc, of whatever the f—k you're pretending to be. Just know this. I'm not going anywhere until you explain to me why you tried to talk [redacted] into saying negative things about me to the media. You're a piece of s—t!!!"
Sophy claimed that Dre falsely accused him of encouraging a third party to ruin his name and threatened to destroy the therapist's career. His fear of the music mogul was so bad that he had to install security cameras and hire private security at his house, as well as file for a temporary restraining order.
A Judge Dismissed The Therapist's Request For A Permanent Restraining Order

In the psychiatrist's lawsuit, Sophy's lawyer argued that "Given [Dre's] status as a powerful and influential Hollywood figure and his public and well-documented history of violence and abuse, [Charles] reasonably believed that [Dre] was capable of carrying out his threats and causing physical harm, violence, or death to [Charles]."
On that note, the therapist attempted to turn the temporary order into a permanent restraining order. However, The Blast reported that a judge dismissed his request during a hearing on November 5 at a Los Angeles courthouse.
Sophy appeared for the hearing in person, while Dre attended virtually through Zoom. The judge did not support the psychiatrist's arguments that his safety was in jeopardy over the music mogul's text messages. On that note, the temporary restraining order was terminated based on a lack of evidence.
Dr. Dre Accused The Psychiatrist Of Racism

Before the restraining order hearing, Dre acknowledged that he had sent harsh text messages to Sophy but denied making "credible threats of violence" that would warrant a restraining order. He also refuted claims about sending fake FBI agents to the therapist's home.
The record producer argued that Sophy's accusations stemmed from harmful stereotypes. He accused his former psychiatrist of "invoking the racist caricature that depicts Black men, like [Dre], as inherently violent."
Additionally, Dre slammed Sophy for linking him to unrelated controversies like the recent accusations against Diddy. In the $10 million lawsuit, the therapist highlighted the alleged "violent behavior of [Dre] 's friends" and implied his dogs weren't safe from the Hip-Hop icon's wrath.
Will the $10 million harassment lawsuit be dismissed like Dr. Dre wants, or will he be held accountable for his text messages?
