The Actor's Announcement Has Divided Their Fans On Social Media
Dumont's new chapter has left netizens sharing their mixed reactions, with the news leaving several stunned.
"What does this mean? Sorry I don't have a teenager's dictionary handy," an X user quizzed, before another replied with a screenshot of a Google search that highlighted trans masculine people are "people whose gender identity is masculine, but differs from the sex they were assigned at birth."
"I saw this movie three times and I have no idea who this actress is," one user penned, while another said Dumont was "Grasping for relevance 5 minutes too late, the trend is coming to an end loser."
"These f-cking trenders are appropriating our condition, using us for virtue points.. leaving us to deal with the aftermath. This would not be acceptable with any other group," a fan shared.
However, some other Internet users expressed their concerns for Dumont as they wondered if they were "having trouble finding roles as a woman."
Emma Dumont's Comming Out Was Praised By Many
Other netizens had kind words for the actor after news of their new identity made headlines.
"Congrats on coming out, Nick! Enjoy being you and your newfound freedom," a fan wrote on the actor's Instagram page.
"Glad you've been able to come out and embrace your gender recently," another person commented. "I'm not sure how you feel about Polaris and that part of your past now, but I appreciate the work you did with the character, of which the broader mutant rights and survivor parts were always what mattered to me. Hoping the best for you in the future."
A third person noted: "Insane! She has the right to live as she chooses, but it feels like Hollywood focuses more on labels like 'transmasculine' than showcasing real talent these days."
