Tiffany Haddish Reflects On DUI With Humor During Laugh Factory Performance
Haddish marked the one-year anniversary of her DUI arrest with humor while performing at the same comedy club she visited just hours before her arrest last Thanksgiving.
During her set at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Thursday, Haddish joked, "I'm so happy to see all of y'all. I'm not in jail tonight, and I will not be tomorrow. I promise you!"
In footage shared by TMZ, she added with a grin, "But I mean, if you're gonna go to jail, Beverly Hills is the place to be. … There is nothing like the Beverly Hills Police Station. It is niiice, OK?"
When an audience member complimented her appearance, Haddish playfully responded, "He's right! He's right. I've been getting my sleep; I've been drinking my water."
Later in her routine, the "Girls Trip" actress brought up a guest who urged the crowd to "check [her] out on the news later."
Taking the mic back, Haddish quipped, "I hope it's not for what I was on the news for last year. I hope that it's for something good, OK?"
Tiffany Haddish Reflects On DUI Arrests And Embracing Sobriety
Last Thanksgiving, Haddish performed at the Laugh Factory before being arrested early the next morning.
As reported by The Blast, police claimed they found the actress "asleep at the wheel" with her car still running.
She was initially charged with two misdemeanors for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or higher.
However, in February, it was revealed that Haddish accepted a plea deal, and her DUI charges were dropped in exchange for a reckless driving conviction.
In a chat with Entertainment Tonight about the arrest, Haddish promised to get better, saying, "I'm going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries. This will never happen again."
The Comedian Speaks About Finding Home In South Central L.A. And Supporting Foster Youth
In an interview with L.A. Times, Haddish revealed that she had made a home in L.A, noting that everything that mattered to her was there.
"I've spent six months here or there doing movies, but my animals and my underwear, my trophies, everything's in L.A.," she said.
Having grown up moving between foster homes throughout Southern California, the "Nobody's Fool" actress shared that she settled in South Central L.A. for good.
"South Central is the safest place to live, geographically," she explained.
Haddish, who has invested in properties across L.A. County and beyond, added: "Everything I buy in Los Angeles County, I pay attention to fault lines. South Central is the safest place to be when it comes to floods, natural disasters, fires. I own property in other states, but I don't live there. I'm housing foster youth."
Tiffany Haddish Shares Her Ideal Sunday: Rest, Worship, And A Hike To Marina del Rey
Haddish also described her ideal Sunday as a day of rest and solitude.
"I normally spend my Sundays in praise and worship and rest," she shared. "I cook, and I sleep, and I try to refrain from being around a bunch of people because I'm always around a bunch of people. I would prefer to stay in bed all day and read my Torah, cook, and watch cartoons. That's what I'd prefer."
The actress noted that if she does venture outdoors on a Sunday, her perfect day would include a mix of movement and delicious food.
"I'll do this probably once every other month, but I like to start at Kenneth Hahn Park, then continue that hike across the MRT [Mark Ridley-Thomas] Bridge all the way to Marina del Rey," she said.
Haddish further noted that she makes a point to indulge in some local treats: "I'll stop at a fruit truck that has smoothies right off of Jefferson. I'll stop there, get something from that truck, continue on my walk, and take that all the way to the marina."
The Actress Has Suffered Eight Miscarriages
Last year, Haddish opened up about her struggles with childbearing in a candid interview with the Washington Post.
She recalled her conversation with a nurse about having her eighth miscarriage. Haddish said, "Well, I'm going to be honest with you, this would be my eighth [miscarriage]."
"I've got a uterus shaped like a heart. It just won't keep anything in," the actress added.
Haddish noted that she's kept all her miscarriages private because she doesn't want people worrying unnecessarily about her.
She said, "Like a wounded animal, I just rather go in a cave by myself. Lick my wounds."
At the time, Haddish told the publication that she's had parenting classes to prepare her for adoption. However, the comedian shared that she's still unsure about actually becoming a mother.
