Jude Law recently shared a surprising behind-the-scenes revelation that may alter how fans view the beloved holiday classic "The Holiday."
The 2006 movie is a romantic comedy directed by Nancy Meyers, known for its heartwarming and charming take on love and relationships. The film centers around two women, each dealing with personal heartbreak, who swap homes for the holiday season to escape their current lives.
In a new interview, Jude Law opened up about the making of the 2006 film.

In an interview with BBC Radio earlier this week, Law expressed his happiness that it has become a staple of holiday viewing for audiences each year. "I find it just, honestly, glorious," he said.
In "The Holiday," Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz, moves to a cozy cottage in the English countryside, while Iris, played by Kate Winslet, stays in Amanda's sleek Beverly Hills mansion. During their time away, both women find unexpected love. Amanda meets Graham, played by Jude Law, Iris' charming and widowed brother, and Iris begins to connect with Miles, played by Jack Black, a quirky film composer who is a friend of Amanda's ex.
Jude Law Reveals A Behind-The-Scenes Secret Of 'The Holiday'
When one of the BBC Radio hosts asked Law if they could "Airbnb that cottage," the actor revealed, "That cottage doesn't exist," leaving the hosts shocked.
"So the director, she's a bit of a perfectionist," he said of Nancy Meyers. "She toured that whole area and didn't quite find the chocolate box cottage she's looking for. So she just [rented] a field, and drew it and had someone build it."
Since it was built as a set for filming, the interiors that viewers have come to admire were never actually part of the structure. "So here's the funny thing, if you watch it [...] We were shooting in the winter here. And every time I'd go in that door, we'd cut, and we shot the interiors in L.A. about three months later," the actor revealed.
The hosts jokingly told Law to stop spilling secrets because he is "ruining it!"
"We can't bear it," they added, to which Law responded, "Just burst the bubble. Sorry!"

The real-life house believed to have inspired "The Holiday," known as Honeysuckle Cottage, is indeed a real property. It was listed on Airbnb as a vacation rental as recently as 2022, but it appears to have been removed from the platform.
According to PEOPLE, the cottage was put up for sale in 2018 with an asking price of $821,000. However, the property, a three-bedroom, one-bath home in Surrey, reportedly sold for $650,000, based on details from the previous listing.
Cameron Diaz Opens Up About Her Character In 'The Holiday'
When thinking back to filming the movie, Diaz admitted, "I haven’t seen the movie since it came out as a premiere. So I’m not as well-versed. But as far as what Amanda embodied — Nancy has this real ability to speak for women of a certain age and a certain phase of life."
"I think that for Amanda, she really nailed the woman who sort of put everything forward," Diaz told Vulture. "The importance of her life was her career. And success. And being a boss and a good boss. Being something in the world. And really not putting the energy and importance on this other aspect of her life — that being the thing that she really desired and hoped for and was brokenhearted over not having."
She continued. "And then that woman being self-sufficient and thinking that somehow, she could get away from the boyfriend who was a jerk and go take care of herself in this way that is quite brave."
Jimmy Fallon Auditioned For 'The Holiday'
Earlier this year, Kate Winslet appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to discuss her role in the new HBO satirical series, "The Regime." Before diving into her latest project, Fallon brought up a fun tidbit—he had auditioned to play Winslet’s love interest in "The Holiday," one of her most famous films.
"I was talking about you a couple of months ago," Fallon told the Oscar-winning actress, per NBC. "I was talking to Howard Stern with Robert Downey Jr., and we were talking about your beloved film, The Holiday. I remember being in a room with you and Robert Downey Jr., and Cameron Diaz."
"The role did not go to me, obviously," Fallon clarified, nor did the man who'd go on to play Tony Stark land the role. "It went to Jack Black and Jude Law."
"The Holiday" is available to rent or purchase on Amazon Prime.
