Lyle Menéndez, who has been making headlines recently regarding his potential release from prison, is facing another major life update unrelated to his legal proceedings. His wife, Rebecca Sneed, confirmed that the couple had been separated for some time.
Rebecca, who married Lyle in 2003, shared the news on her husband's Facebook account on Friday, stating that she and Lyle had been "separated for a while now."
This revelation has surprised many, as the Menéndez family has remained in the public eye for years due to the high-profile nature of Lyle Menéndez and his brother Erik Menéndez’s 1989 conviction for the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menéndez.

Rebecca made it clear that there is no ill will between her and Lyle, clarifying that their separation was not the result of "a cheating scandal" and that they "remain best friends and family."
This comes after reports surfaced claiming that Lyle had been involved in an affair with a 21-year-old student, Milly Bucksey, who was reportedly seen getting close to him during a prison visit. The two are said to have communicated via a cell phone while Lyle continues to serve his sentence.
Rebecca Sneed Denies Affair Allegations
However, Rebecca denies any illicit affair, emphasizing her ongoing commitment to Lyle and Erik's fight for freedom. She also expressed her intention to continue updating Lyle's Facebook page and sharing news about his case, reaffirming that she will "never stop fighting for them."
Earlier this month, Lyle referenced his upcoming 20th wedding anniversary in a resentencing request, highlighting how his marriage to Rebecca has profoundly impacted his life in "so many ways."
Lyle Menéndez Is Currently Serving A Life Sentence
Lyle Menéndez is currently serving a life sentence, alongside his brother Erik Menéndez, for the 1989 murders of their parents, Kitty and Jose Menéndez.
The case dates back to August 20, 1989, when 18-year-old Erik and 21-year-old Lyle shocked the nation by fatally shooting their parents in the family’s Beverly Hills mansion. Armed with shotguns they had purchased just days earlier, the brothers carried out a brutal assault that captivated the public and led to a series of highly sensational trials.
After nearly 35 years in prison, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has officially recommended that the Menéndez brothers be resentenced, a move that could make them eligible for parole.
This recommendation follows newly uncovered evidence that suggests the brothers endured abuse at the hands of their father, potentially offering a new perspective on their actions. The District Attorney's office has also expressed openness to revisiting the brothers' convictions entirely, a step that could result in their immediate release.
'Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story'
The case of Lyle and Erik Menéndez has garnered renewed attention with the release of Netflix's series "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story."
The dramatization revisits the 1989 murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menéndez, providing new insight into the complex family dynamics and allegations of abuse that may have influenced the brothers' actions. The series has sparked public debate, reigniting calls to reassess their convictions.
In the original 1994 trial, juries were unable to reach a unanimous verdict after hearing testimony from Lyle and Erik. The brothers contended they acted in self-defense, claiming they feared their parents would kill them to conceal the abuse they had endured. This led to a mistrial, followed by a second trial, in which the brothers were ultimately convicted.

Ahead of the premiere of "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story," Erik expressed his dissatisfaction with how he and his brother Lyle were portrayed in the series.
In a statement, Erik argued that the show misrepresents their claims of childhood abuse and their argument of self-defense in the killings of their parents. “I believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show," he said.
Erik also highlighted that these inaccuracies distort the true nature of their experiences, which they have consistently maintained since the start of their legal case. "I can only believe they were done so on purpose," he continued. "It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent.”
