Jaime King's ex-husband, Kyle Newman, will not get a verdict in his custody case until next year.
The model's custody case with her former husband has now drawn the attention of the Department of Children and Family Service, hence giving her more time in the case.
Jaime King and Kyle Newman have been embroiled in their bitter divorce since she made the first move in 2020 after 13 years of being a married couple.
Jaime King And Kyle Newman's TRO Hearing Was Rescheduled For January 2025
The judge presiding over Newman's petition for a restraining order against his estranged wife dropped the news at a court hearing on Monday.
Reports from the hearing stated that the court acknowledged the involvement of the Department of Children and Family Services, noting that there are no temporary orders in effect.
Although King and Newman were not present at the hearing, their legal reps were in court. Newman's attorney confirmed to the court that his client had not been able to serve Newman with a notice of the court hearing.
Due to this, In Touch shared the hearing on Newman's request for a restraining order, and sole custody was pushed to January 13, 2025.
The American Actress Denied Her Ex-Husband's Claim Of Child Negligence
King, through her attorney Diana D. Hagopian, denied Newman's claim of their children being in danger under King's watch. Hagopian claimed that the "allegations against Jaime are entirely false and intended to cause her harm and garner damaging media attention."
The lawyer added, "It is unfortunate that Mr. Newman continues to utilize the court in an attempt to continue … the filing of unfounded malicious claims and to use the children as weapons and pawns without regard to their privacy."
She concluded that King intentionally and solely focused on creating "a peaceful and harmonious coparenting process, and her utmost priority is the happiness, health, and well-being of their children."
As for Newman's lawyer, Garry Gekht, "Kyle's only wish is that Jaime finally gets the help she needs so that she can be a safe, healthy and appropriate parent to the parties' children."
He urged the public to grant them privacy "both from the media and from Jaime and her new attorney, for the sake of the children who continue to be in his exclusive care and remain his sole focus."
What Are Newman's Claims In His Sole Custody Filings?
Newman submitted a plea to gain full custody of their children as he claimed the kids had been traumatized from living with his ex-wife.
In the October 17 filing, The Blast reported that Newman explained that he got a call from the kids during their stay at King's house, crying and begging him to come pick them up.
When he arrived around 7:45 am, the actor claimed he met King sitting on the floor wearing a navy blue and white varsity. He claimed her hair was in pigtails, and she appeared not to be wearing any pants "(or maybe had short shorts on). There were two men there."
He noted that she appeared distressed and tired from getting drunk as she called on him to help her get up. King reportedly told Newman, "Those are bad boys. We have to do something about our boys. Their behavior is not right."
Newman continued that after the encounter that morning, he dropped off the children at school, where one of the boys reported their mom to the school therapist. He shared that the therapist had previously called DCFS on King but to no avail.
The Actress' New Romantic Partner Also Voiced His Reservations About Her Attitude
Newman shared that King's current boyfriend, Tony, also had a conversation with him to express his worries about the actress having the kids around her.
The actor noted that the boys corroborated Tony's side of the story by telling him she had been partying late into the night with her friends. On one occasion, the kids tried to call him, and King snatched the phone from their hands.
King reportedly told their son, "Every single word you've said since you were born is dangerous." He claimed she also said, "Everyone in the world will die because of you … especially you."
Jaime King And Kyle Newman Sealed Their Divorce Deal In May
The temporary restraining order and sole custody battle began after they signed off on their marriage termination papers in May 2024, with Judge Joshua D. Wayser officially granting the dissolution.
The celebrity was reportedly absent during the dissolution hearing. Neither was her phone reachable, nor were calls made on her behalf. Details in the termination documents showed that she did not make any move to oppose Newman's motion for entry of judgment on April 18, 2024.
She, however, filed multiple exparte applications later, claiming she signed the marital settlement under duress. For the settlement, King was ordered to pay $1000 in spousal support until Newman's death or remarriage in addition to $429 in child support.
