'Sister Wives' Meri Brown Laments Failing To Ask For Alimony During Kody Split

Meri Brown is not holding back when reflecting on her split from Kody Brown, joking that his help with her move was her version of a "severance package."

This tongue-in-cheek remark comes weeks after Meri made it clear she would not be spending the holidays as a third wheel with Kody and Robyn Brown.

Meri Brown and Kody Brown's separation has seen its share of heartbreak and unresolved tensions since their split was confirmed.

In a preview for TLC's upcoming "Sister Wives" episode, Meri revealed her plans to relocate before her lease ends in June, asking Kody for help with the heavy lifting. 

In the clip, Meri humorously referred to Kody helping her move as her "severance package." The quip came after Robyn pointed out rumors about Meri moving as early as June or July.

The 53-year-old clarified, "My lease is up at the end of June. I just want to get it done before that. Anyway, I was just wondering if you'd be willing to help me load some stuff."

When Kody agreed to help her pack, Meri cheekily responded, "Call it my severance package." As reported by In Touch, Meri later explained her joke, referencing her decision not to request alimony when she and Kody legally divorced in 2014. 

"I put 30 years into this. Like, help me move and get out of here. Then we'll just be good to go. We'll call it even, I guess," she said.

While Robyn chuckled at the comment, Kody appeared puzzled. "I don't know if this is passive-aggressive or if it's just aggressive or if it's a joke," he wondered aloud in a confessional, adding, "I haven't known my whole marriage."

Meri's lighthearted remark underscores her commitment to independence, having already made it clear she will not be spending Thanksgiving as an unwelcome guest at the couple's home.

In October, The Blast noted that in an episode, the mother-of-one revealed that while Robyn extended an invitation, she declined.

"That's just weird," Meri admitted in a confessional, adding that Kody has repeatedly said her presence creates awkwardness, preventing him from showing affection to Robyn.

Meri's decision reflects years of tension following her split from Kody. She emphasized her unwillingness to disrupt their dynamic, saying:

"I'm not going to inhibit that. You know, I'm not a member of the family. I just really don't want to go be a third wheel at Robyn and Kody's house." 

Kody opened up about the impact of Meri's presence on his relationship with his only remaining wife. Reflecting on last year's Thanksgiving, the 55-year-old admitted that while the holiday with Meri was "pleasant," it was not without complications.

In a candid confessional, Kody explained that Robyn's demeanor shifts when his former wives are around. "Robyn and I don't behave like a married couple when my other wives are around," he shared.

The father-of-eighteen highlighted how Robyn's efforts to accommodate others have influenced their interactions.  In his words, "That's mostly on Robyn, to be fair. That's because Robyn is very sensitive to other people. She wants to be very careful about their feelings."

As part of her journey toward independence, The Blast reported that Meri's friends surprised her with a transformed new home, offering her a peaceful sanctuary.

The space, once a simple storage area, was given a stunning makeover by interior designer Blair Struble and Meri's longtime friend, Jenn Sullivan.

The makeover was more than just a home improvement—it was a reflection of Meri's new beginning. The revamped area now serves as a creative workspace for her online clothing business and a personal gym.

Excited about the transformation, Meri shared, "I have some high expectations for this. I have seen some of the work that Blair does. I am so excited to see this."

Meri's journey toward a new life by herself took a heartfelt turn as she toured her newly transformed home. The thoughtful updates, including a wardrobe, work desk, and a stunning marble island, visibly moved the entrepreneur. 

A tribute to her late mother added an extra layer of meaning to the transformation. Meri shared her excitement, stating, "This is the most amazing transformation. I can't stop looking at all the things, all the detail, all the things that he's hung up on the wall." 

The new space also features a dedicated workout area, where Meri plans to focus on strength training and personal growth. Meri also acknowledged her new single status, admitting, "I'm not ready to look into dating. It's so new right now like I'm not ready for that."

While Meri Brown's cheeky remark about a "severance package" underscores the tension between them, it also probably highlights her determination to move forward on her terms.
