Rachel Zegler Apologizes For Her Remarks Towards Donald Trump Supporters
"Snow White" star Rachel Zegler has issued an apology following her controversial remarks about Trump and his supporters, taking to Instagram late Thursday, November 14, just days after her incendiary comment wishing Trump supporters would "never know peace" sparked outrage online.
"I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on my Instagram last week," she wrote. "I let my emotions get the best of me. Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse."
“This week has been emotional for so many of us, but I firmly believe that everyone has the right to their opinion, even when it differs from my own,” she added. “I am committed to contributing positively toward a better tomorrow.”
What Did Rachel Zegler Say About Donald Trump And His Supporters?
After Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election, Rachel Zegler took to her Instagram Stories to slam those who voted for the 78-year-old.
“I find myself speechless in the midst of this,” she had written on her Instagram Stories. “Another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in. Leaning us towards a world that will be hard to raise my daughter in."
“There is a deep sickness in this country … shown in the sheer amount of people who showed up for this man who threatens our democracy,” she continued. “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.”
Many Threaten To Boycott Disney Following Rachel Zegler's Remarks
The backlash was immediate, with many critics threatening to boycott Disney over Zegler’s remarks.
Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly weighed in on the controversy, slamming the actress. Kelly went as far as calling Zegler a “pig” while condemning what she described as poorly expressed political opinions.
“Hello, Disney! You’re gonna have to redo your film again, because this woman is a pig,” she expressed during her SiriusXM show Thursday. “You fired Gina Carano for far less than this nonsense,” she added, referring to Disney firing Carano from “The Mandalorian” in 2021 for comparing the treatment of conservatives in contemporary America to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany.
Rachel Zegler Stirs More Controversy With ‘Free Palestine’ Post
Known for her outspoken liberal views and previous criticism of the original "Snow White" film's traditional themes, Zegler fueled further controversy by adding a "Free Palestine" message to a post where she thanked fans for watching the trailer for the film.
"And always remember free Palestine," the "Hunger Games" actress shared to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
The message came after her original post, which read, "I love you all so much! Thank you for the love and for 120m views on our trailer in just 24 hours! What a whirlwind. I am in the thick of rehearsals for 'Romeo + Juliet' so i’m gonna get outta here. bye for now."
Critics Claim Rachel Zegler's Comments Were Aimed At Gal Gadot
Many took it as a troll towards her costar, Gal Gadot, who is portraying the Evil Queen in the upcoming film.
Newsweek opinion contributor Joel Peltin said, "Rachel Zegler is trolling her much more famous and beautiful Snow White co-star Gal Gadot. Disney continues to hire the wrong actors to represent their brand. Rather than promoting a film, they choose to embarrass themselves and the studio."
Tablet Magazine's Deputy Audience Editor, Isaac de Castro, remarked, "She could have turned down this role instead of starring alongside Gal Gadot. She could have also not worked with Spielberg, who handed her her breakout role. Instead, she’ll tweet petty slights aimed at her co-star to muddy the fact that she can’t even stick to her own principles when it’s inconvenient for her career."
