Quincy Jones' fans can finally stop wondering what caused the music icon's death at 91.

The multi-hyphenate legend took his final breath on November 3, officially closing the chapter on his illustrious seven-decade career. As a record producer, composer, arranger, conductor, and more, Jones died as one of the 20th century's greatest acts.

Naturally, his passing sparked a wave of grief amongst fans, colleagues, and other musicians. Numerous tributes poured in for Quincy Jones, but the number one question on everyone's minds was his cause of death.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health released Jones' death certificate over a week after his passing. The document revealed the entertainer died from the 4th leading cause of cancer deaths in the country — Pancreatic cancer.

No other contributing factors to his demise were highlighted in the death certificate, confirming there was no foul play or accident involved. Jones' cause of death was revealed days after his family laid him to rest in Los Angeles.

The record producer was honored in a private ceremony attended by his seven children, his brother, two sisters, and other family members. TMZ shared that Jones' loved ones confirmed a public celebration of life event would be held, but no date has been announced.

Rashida Jones Honored Her Late Father In A Poignant Post

On November 7, the music icon's daughter Rashida Jones paid tribute to his memory in a heartfelt post on Instagram. She shared a throwback sepia picture of her father cuddling with her baby self alongside a lengthy message.

Rashida reflected on their time together, noting her father had been "nocturnal his whole adult life." She explained that he kept "jazz hours" from high school and never looked back, adding:

"When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music)."

"He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work...there was no safer place in the world for me..He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius," Rashida claimed.

Jones' death was confirmed by his publicist, Arnold Robinson. The Blast shared that the rep revealed the jazz legend passed away during the night of November 3, surrounded by his family.

Jones' loved ones echoed similar sentiments in a statement, noting: "Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones' passing."

"And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived," the statement continued. Jones' family declared there would "never be another like him" and implored fans to honor his memory.

Instead of flowers, Jones' loved ones asked fans to celebrate his love for jazz music with donations to The Jazz Foundation of America. The late entertainer's publicist also implored them to respect the family's privacy amid their grief.

During his life, Jones dominated the 20th century as one of its most significant acts. He obtained this status with his numerous achievements as a record producer, artist, film producer, arranger, conductor, instrumentalist, and composer.

Additionally, he made waves as a TV producer, record company executive, magazine founder, and multimedia entrepreneur. As a producer, Jones worked with icons like the late Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Will Smith.

He produced three hit albums for Jackson, "Off the Wall," "Bad," and the best-selling album of all time, "Thriller." Jones also produced and conducted the popular charity song "We Are the World" to raise funds for famine victims in Ethiopia in 1985.

Quincy Jones Broke Multiple Records At The Academy Awards

Jones broke into the Oscars scene as the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award in 1968. He was honored in the Best Original Song category for "The Eyes of Love" track, which was used in the film "Banning."

He broke records again as the first African American to be nominated twice for an Academy Award in the same year, thanks to his second nomination for Best Original Score. Jones was also the first African American to be a musical director and conductor at the event in 1971.

The late record producer's record-breaking achievements continued with his status as the first African American to receive the Academy's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

Jones and sound designer Willie D. Burton were tied as the second most Oscar-nominated African American, with seven nominations each.
