Taylor Swift Seemingly Takes Aim At Donald Trump During 'You Need To Calm Down' Segment

Taylor Swift has once again used her platform to seemingly make a powerful statement.
During a recent performance of her hit song "You Need to Calm Down" on her Eras Tour, Swift appeared to subtly criticize both former President Donald Trump and Florida’s controversial “Don’t Say Gay” law, which limits discussions of gender and sexuality in certain settings.
A video of her performance is going viral on TikTok, and fans of Taylor Swift can't help but get a kick out of the dropped hints.
Did Taylor Swift Just Make A Dig At Donald Trump?
The pop star, dressed in a vibrant orange ensemble that many believe was a nod to Trump’s frequently discussed spray tan, took the stage in Miami with an air of defiance. Her backup dancers wore gray pantsuits, seemingly a tribute to Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Swift endorsed earlier this year.
This costume choice appeared to showcase Swift’s support for Harris’s campaign and, by extension, her opposition to policies restricting LGBTQ+ rights.
Swift has become renowned for her talent at subtly weaving hints and hidden messages into her music, performances, and public appearances. Whether through song lyrics, social media posts, or fashion choices, Swift often drops clues that spark widespread speculation among her fans.
Taylor Swift Sings 'You Need To Calm Down' In Florida
While she sings "You Need to Calm Down" at every concert, fans noticed that Swift sang the word "gay" with emphasis—a seemingly direct nod to Florida, a state that has recently passed laws restricting certain discussions about LGBTQ+ issues in schools.
"Taylor singing this in a state where they literally passed a bill to ban saying it," a TikToker wrote over the video of Swift's performance.
"All her background dancers are dressing like Madam President!! Love her!!" another Swiftie chimed in after seeing the clip.
"Singing 'Calm Down' in all orange," a third said.
"I may not be her target audience, but I’m more impressed by this woman every day! Thank you Taylor Swift!!" a fourth expressed.
"That orange statement is so iconic," another person said.
Taylor Swift Loves Dropping 'Easter Eggs' For Swifties
Swift's habit of leaving “Easter eggs” has become a signature element of her artistry, keeping fans engaged as they search for deeper meanings in her work.
Her attention to detail and knack for layering symbolism have allowed her to communicate messages and express opinions in a way that feels both personal and intentional, often addressing her thoughts on love, identity, and even political beliefs.
Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris
Moments after the debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump concluded, the pop star took to Instagram to endorse Harris and Walz, seizing the chance to also take a jab at Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, signing the post, "Childless Cat Lady."
"Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most," she wrote in her lengthy Instagram caption. "As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country."
The "Love Story" singer said she will be casting her vote for Harris and Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election because "she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them" and Harris is a "steady-handed, gifted leader," she revealed that she has "done her research" and "made her choice."
Tim Walz Said He Is 'Grateful' For Taylor Swift's Endorsement
After the presidential debate between Harris and Trump, Minnesota Governor Walz appeared on MSNBC’s post-debate coverage to discuss Swift's endorsement of both him and Harris.
“I am incredibly grateful, first of all, to Taylor Swift. I say that also as a cat owner — a fellow cat owner. That was eloquent and it was clear,” Walz told host Rachel Maddow, per PEOPLE Magazine. “And that’s the type of courage we need in America, to stand up.”
“We’ve seen it out of those Republicans who were at the DNC, we’ve seen it out of women who would like to have their own personal lives kept personal, but are forced to go out there cause they nearly died because they can’t get abortion services in a pregnancy,” Walz continued. “And now you have somebody like Taylor Swift, coming out and making that very clear.”
