Zooey Deschanel & Husband Split After Four Years of Marriage

"New Girl" star Zooey Deschanel and her film producer husband have decided to go separate ways.

The duo announced the breakup and revealed they are "better off as friends" in a joint statement on Friday.

"After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners," Zooey and Jacob said in the statement.

"We remain committed to our business, our values and most of all our children."

They also thanked fans and asked for privacy during this difficult family time.

Zooey and Jacob share two children together -- daughter, Elsie Otter Pechenik, 4, and son, Charlie Wolf Pechenik, 2.

The former couple secretly wed in 2015, shortly before welcoming Elsie into the world.

Jacob proposed to the actress on her 35th birthday.

Zooey is the breakout star of Fox's "New Girl," which was on for 7 seasons before going off air in 2018.

She's also known for playing Will Ferrell's love interest in "Elf."

It's been a while since the couple has been spotted together.

Zooey last shared an Instagram post featuring her husband in the beginning of May. Posing with a group of friends, she revealed that Mom and Dad had a night off.

"Got to hang with some of my favorite foodie friends last night!" she captioned the fun group shot.
