An English radio host is reflecting on her experiences with Liam Payne following his passing at the age of 31 on October 19.
As The Blast reported, the former One Direction band member passed away at the age of 31 after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Following his death, many tributes began pouring in, including from English radio host Siân Welby, who had the chance to interview Liam Payne on multiple occasions.
English Radio Host Recalls Liam Payne's 'Childlike Joy For Life'
Siân Welby, co-host of Capital Breakfast, who frequently interviewed the late One Direction singer, described him as an “interviewer’s dream.”
When speaking with People Magazine, she said Payne was "always up for a laugh and game to play along with anything" presented to him.
Welby reminisced about a particular moment when Payne "literally let me zap him with a taser!" About five years ago, Payne appeared on her radio show to play a game called "Guess the Artist and the Name of the Song."
“These are electric shockers,” Welby's co-host explained, adding that if he guessed incorrectly or if Welby beat him to the punch, he would receive a zap. After losing both the first and the second round, Payne confessed he didn’t fully grasp the rules because he "wasn't listening" and was "too busy tasing myself."
Liam Payne 'Always Came Across As Very Down-To-Earth'
As he continued to lose rounds, Payne humorously admitted he was just "shouting whatever came to mind."
Despite being tased multiple times, Payne remained in high spirits, laughing and enjoying himself. “Despite all the fame and success, he still always came across as a very down-to-earth lad who hadn’t forgotten his roots,” Welby shared with People Magazine following his tragic passing.
While the taser incident was a fond memory, Welby says one of her other favorite memories of the "Strip That Down" singer is the time she bought him a birthday gift.
“I remember buying him some Batman Lego as a birthday present because I knew he loved Batman! He was over the moon and took it with him after the interview. He really had that cheeky, childlike joy for life,” she told the outlet.

She later talked about his death, which she described as “tragic” and “devastating.”
“He’ll be remembered for how empathetic he was to his friends and his fans,” she said. “You can see the outpouring of love and people expressing how much he helped others through difficult times and that says so much about his character.”
“He went from being a little lad in Wolverhampton with a dream to becoming part of the biggest boy band in the world. He achieved so much in such a short period of time,” Welby added.
The radio host later remembered Payne as being “so passionate” about his career and One Direction bandmates.

"Usually our job on 'Capital Breakfast' is to let you in on all the fun and joyous things in the world, but this morning we’re waking up to the tragic news that we’ve lost someone way too soon," she began. "Liam was someone who we’ve all followed on his journey as a 14-year-old lad from Wolverhampton with a dream of being a pop star, to seeing his rise to superstardom in One Direction."
She continued, "Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing him and my memories of him were that he was always bursting with positive energy, up for a laugh and so passionate about his career and the 1D lads."
Welby said she hopes that his friends and family "find some comfort in knowing that Liam and the boys with their songs and concerts and time for their fans helped so many of them through difficult or dark times in their lives."
Liam Payne Reportedly Consumed Drug Cocktail Leading To Breakdown
Some of the drugs Payne reportedly purchased from dealers included crack cocaine, benzodiazepines, and pink cocaine—a combination of methamphetamine, ketamine, and MDMA. Traces of these substances were detected in his system, though it is still unclear how much he consumed before his death.
Authorities also discovered various drug-related paraphernalia in his hotel room, including substances hidden inside a Dove soap box.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities raided the hotel Liam Payne was staying at, obtaining computers, phones, and other devices.
