Rick Ross Admits A Major Seizure From Codeine Abuse Is What Led To Hospitalization

Rick Ross is coming clean about what led to his hospitalization and near death experience, saying it was seizures due to codeine abuse, that led to the incident.

The revelation comes as Ross is releasing a new memoir, 'Hurricanes: 'My Life Is a Movie.' The book includes stories of Ricks childhood in the 1980's in a tough part of Miami Gardens, Florida—to his rise to hip-hop legend.

The rapper told People in a new interview, he was in terrible shape and woke up in the hospital surrounded by people like a "VIP."“ When I woke up in the hospital and I had so many people around me, so many homies, it felt like I was in V.I.P. or some s—," he told the magazine.

“It was the codeine,” he confirmed. Saying he began using the prescription opioid cough recreationally, but eventually turned to large quantities to "cope with stress."

“That mixed with the things I was drinking, the other drugs I was doing, and on top of not resting. [I don’t think] one particular thing would have killed me." Ross explained.

Ross clarified he did NOT not suffer a heart attack and he was never placed on an ECMO machine which was erroneously reported at the time.

As we first reported, last year emergency crews rushed to his mansion to provide aid after he was found breathing heavy and unresponsive.

According to the Davie Police Department, at the time, they were called to assist in the medical emergency after a call came in at 3:34 AM.

When friends at Ross' home tried to wake him up they found him "slobbing out the mouth." The police were called after Ross became "combative" with emergency crews. The 911 caller said he was just "nodding his head."

Authorities noted the situation was serious , and Ross had a history of seizures.
