'We Were Just Kids When We Got Married'

An Instagram post shared by Affleck on September 18 shared some of the couple's background story.

"We were just kids when we got married. Young, naive, and inexperienced, we truly had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Coming from completely different backgrounds, families, and upbringings, it didn’t seem to make sense. We were polar opposites. How could we make this work? How could we see the same picture? We didn’t always see eye to eye, and a lot of times, we still don’t. But that’s what marriage is, we keep trying. I truly believe there were lessons we both needed to teach each other," she wrote.

"When we were dating Zac bought me my first laptop when he had $10 in his bank account. When I shared my dream of running a marathon, he trained alongside me and ran it with me. I told him I wanted to start my videography business, so he saved up money and bought me my first camera. When we were expecting our first baby, I wanted a place to call home, so he worked hard, saved up, and bought us our first house."

Her caption continued to explain that they are "still young" and "have struggles" but they do love each other and are willing to put in the work.

Many took to the comments to share their thoughts on the relationship.

"NONE of that gives him a pass to do ANY of the things we all watched him do to you on the show. NONE of it. Your soulmate will never scream at you, threaten divorce, question your morals, belittle you, control you, and put their needs far and away above yours. You are young. So take it from someone older than you— it will not change. It will get worse," one person wrote.

Another added, "As a former DV advocate, this is projection of HER love for him and unfortunately whyyyy too common for women to defend their abuser. And Idc what anyone says, he IS her abuser."

One other pointed out, "He can do all of those things, but still be abusive and controlling. You deserve to have love without this huge price tag."
