Snoop Dogg's petition to seal his 1993 murder charge was granted earlier this year.
New reports revealed a judge granted the "Drop It Like It's Hot" hitmaker's request to make the over-a-decade murder case inaccessible to the public and unauthorized people.
Snoop Dogg put his infamous past behind him long before making history at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The timing of the seal also coincided with the month he lost his brother, Bing Worthington.
Snoop Dogg's 1993 Case Is Now Confidential
Snoop filed to seal the controversial criminal case in January, and the court signed off on his confidentiality request in late February, keeping his 1993 murder arrest under wraps.
The criminal case went viral in the 90s as the rapper was not only in his twenties but also a rising Hip-Hop star at the time. Snoop and his bodyguard were accused of shooting a man in an L.A. Park.
The public's attention was so significant that Snoop wrote "Murder Was The Case" about the media frenzy over the allegations. He was eventually arrested for the alleged crime following his memorable MTV Awards performance of the track.
Snoop continued to make headlines for the murder trial in the following years, but his most unforgettable moment was his reaction to the not-guilty verdict in 1996. TMZ reported that his acquittal shaped both his life and music going forward.
A Nonprofit Organization Helped With The Seal Request
As stated, the court granted Snoop's seal request in late February, months before he served as a celebrity spokesperson at the 2024 Summer Olympics. He reportedly raked in millions of dollars, a fantastic way to commemorate his achievement.
However, Snoop did not do it alone, as Ceasar McDowell and his nonprofit organization Unite the People Inc. helped with the sealing process. The California-based company, per its website, was focused on fighting for social justice and assisting the community.
Additionally, the month Snoop's seal was granted coincided with his brother Bing Worthington's death. The Blast reported the music mogul confirmed the heartbreaking news in an Instagram post, reflecting on his late sibling's memory.
Snoop Dogg Mourned His Brother's Passing
In his poignant post, Snoop shared a picture of Worthington and himself posing in a dressing room. He also dropped a snap of the deceased with a cake beside their late mother, Beverly Tate, and captioned it, "bac wit momma."
Snoop lost his brother three years after their mother died from undisclosed health problems in October 2021. At the time, the rapper shared a picture of himself and his brothers posing by her gravesite alongside the words "Mamas boys" and "brothers."
Before his mother's death, The rapper kept fans updated about her health in various social media posts. One update saw the family posing by her side, with Snoop noting it was one of the rare moments she was conscious in their presence.
The Hip-Hop Icon Was Embroiled In A Battle With Walmart
Weeks before losing his brother, Snoop butted heads with Walmart over an alleged conspiracy to sabotage the sale of his "Snoop Cereal" brand. The rapper's attorney, Ben Crump, claimed they were prepared to sue the retail giant and Post Foods.
According to Crump, Walmart prevented "Snoop Cereal" from being placed on store shelves, while Post Foods used "deceptive practices" to sabotage the rapper's cereal brand. Snoop co-launched his production company with Master P in 2022.
The pair produced the cereal last summer with several flavors, including Cinnamon Toasteez, Fruity Hoopz with Marshmallows, and Frosted Drizzlers. However, their sales had allegedly been negatively impacted by Walmart and Post Foods — but they denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Snoop Dogg's Olympic Moment Sparked Hilarious Cannabis Memes
In July, The Blast reported that Snoop had gone viral on social media platforms like X over his Olympic torchbearer moment. The memes started after he shared a picture of himself holding the prestigious torch.
"Hope you had fun," a cheeky fan tweeted, editing the torch to a large blunt in Snoop's hand. A fellow X user echoed similar sentiments, dropping an edited video of a burning cannabis roll, while a third shared a meme of a man with an enormous blunt.
Before Snoop became a viral meme, rapper Flavor Flav raved about his excitement for the torch-bearing ceremony. He claimed the Hip-Hop icon's participation in the event would be "a very, very big moment for rap music history."
