On Sunday, October 6, one week after learning of her father's passing, Shannon Amos took to Instagram once again, this time sharing a heartfelt video and how her family is doing.
"The two greatest gifts in this life are to witness the birth of a new soul entering this world and to hold the sacred space of love as a soul prepares to depart," Shannon began to write in her lengthy Instagram post. "No one should leave this life without those dearest by their side… no one should make that final journey without the comfort, warmth, and presence of those who hold them so close to their hearts."
After sharing a Maya Angelou quote--“I sustain myself with the love of family"--she reflected that "it is in these moments of transition—whether welcoming new life or lighting the path for a soul joining the ancestors—that the love of family becomes our deepest strength."

"Our family—a daughter, a brother, nieces, grandchildren, cousins, and extended family should have had the chance to say goodbye, to be present, to lay our healing hands on him, to light our beloved patriarch’s path as he ascended. To bear witness and hold space. Yet… 'There is no death, only a change of worlds,' - Chief Seattle."
"And so, it is a blessing to be present in these sacred moments, for it is our love that helps guide and sustain those who are crossing into the next world," she added. "Yet, even outside of your physical presence we were and are eternally connected."

Shannon went on to share a story of how she was met by her father in one of her dreams shortly before he passed away.
"You spoke to me in my dreams just before you departed and I lit a candle for you on my altar to light your path," Shannon revealed. "I asked family to do the same. I prayed and asked the ancestors to hold you, as I made an offering to Yemayah to cleanse your soul. You are free now my beloved Daddy. You are free."
Shannon then asked a question: "I know I will have days when I cry heavily and deeply. How do I reconcile these emotions?" only before answering: "Only love can do that."
John Amos Passes Away
Last week, John's son K.C. released a statement, revealing that his father had passed away earlier this year.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” K.C. said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
His statement added, "Many fans consider him their TV father. My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life. Most recently in 'Suits LA' playing himself and our documentary about his life journey as an actor, America's Dad. He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support at this time."
