5 Actors With Numerous Oscar Nominations, But Zero Wins

The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony was held last night. Usually, the show is held during the month of February, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic was pushed back to April. Oscar nominees dressed to the nines as they gathered to celebrate their work and cheer on their peers.

As with every Oscar ceremony, there were a few surprise winners. Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for his role in "The Father," beating out the late Chadwick Boseman, who many thought was a shoe-in to win. Meanwhile, Frances McDormand won her third Best Actress award.

Although, Hopkins and McDorman are lucky to add more Oscars to their shelves, other actors aren't so fortunate. Throughout the decades, there's been actors who've received numerous Oscar nominations, but never won the award.

When it comes to being unlucky at the Oscars, Glenn Close takes the top prize. The 74-year-old has received eight nominations throughout her career. Four of the nominations were for Best Actress, while the others were for Best Supporting Actress.

This year Close was nominated for Supporting Actress for the film "Hillbilly Elegy." Many hoped this would finally be Close's year. However, Youn Yuh-jung walked away with the coveted award. Although, Close has yet to win an Oscar, the actress says just being nominated is enough for her.

Amy Adams is joining Close in the category of being snubbed for an Oscar win. The redhead has received a total of six nominations. Her first nom came in 2006 for her supporting role in "Junebug." Adams was highly-praised by critics for her performance and many felt she deserved the award. However, the academy awarded the statue to Rachel Weisz.

Adams would go on to receive four more Best Supporting Actress nominations. In 2014, she earned her first nom as Best Actress for the film "American Hustle." Amy's constant snub when it comes to awards has left fans riled, with many saying she's deserves more recognition for her talent.

Michelle Williams went from being a teen star on "Dawson's Creek" to becoming an award-winning actress. Williams has showed off her versatile acting range thanks to movies such as "Blue Valentine" and "Wendy and Lucy." Her performances haven't gone unnoticed either.

Williams' first Oscar nomination came as supporting actress in the 2005 film "Brokeback Mountain." She would go on to receive two Best Actress noms for the films "Blue Valentine" and "My Week with Marilyn," in which she portrayed the iconic Marilyn Monroe. Michelle's last nomination came 2017 for her supporting role in "Manchester by the Sea."

Although, she's failed to win an Oscar, the actress does have two Golden Globes and an Emmy on her shelf.

Bradley Cooper is one of Hollywood's top leading men. Despite having enormous talent, the star has yet to win Tinseltown's top acting prize. Throughout his nearly two decade career, Cooper has received three Best Actor nominations along with one Supporting Actor nom.

Cooper's first nomination came for "Silver Linings Playbook," which co-starred Jennifer Lawrence. Although Cooper went home empty that night, Lawrence won the Best Actress Oscar. His most recent nomination came in 2019 for "A Star is Born," which he produced, directed, and starred in. Despite giving a resounding performance alongside Lady Gaga, Cooper lost out on the Best Actor trophy.

When it comes to Best Actor snubs, Peter O'Toole holds the record at eight Oscar nominations. The late actor had a legendary career, which spanned over five decades. His film resume includes the classics such as "Lawrence of Arabia" and "My Favorite Year."

O'Toole's last nomination came in 2006 for the movie "Venus." Although, he was the sentimental favorite to win, Forest Whitaker took home the honors that year. In 2003, the academy presented O'Toole with an honorary Oscar. Although, the actor originally rejected the offer, he showed up during the broadcast to accept the award.
