Two months before his release from jail, The Blast reported that Margera had won his case against his former partner, Nicole Boyd. The exes had been fighting in court over the validity of their marriage and custody of their son, Phoenix.

Boyd claimed their 2013 marriage was legal, while Margera had insisted it wasn't. In his argument, he explained that a ceremony had occurred in Iceland; however, it wasn't legal because they failed to obtain a U.S. marriage license.

A judge ruled in Margera's favor in July, noting that his first marriage wasn't legal under U.S. law. Following the verdict, the TV personality celebrated his win while slamming his ex in a statement.

"But paying a fistful of dollars for a four-day trial about it and acting like she didn't know is a time-consuming pain up my ass, but I'm used to it."
