Hilary Duff’s career is at a pretty high point right now. She has a great role on Younger and there was even talk of a Lizzie Maguire reboot starring Duff and a few of the other original cast members. While her fans love that they get to enjoy her o their screens every week they are a bit picky about the projects that she is signing on to. Fans stormed social media this week split on the news that her next project will no be the Lizze McGuire reboot that they have been hoping for but a How I Met Your Mother spinoff called, yeah you guessed it, How I Met Your Father.
Not Exactly The Show Fans Wanted
Hulu announced that the 33-year-old will star in and produce the spinoff. “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie,” shared the actress in a statement released by her team. The mom of three shared that she is “honored” and “nervous” to take on this role both in front of and behind the camera. However, she also expresses great excitement. “Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there!”
Hilary Will Have A Big Role On And Off The Screen
Unfortunately for Duff, fans wanted answers immediately. Most assumed that since Disney+ decided to not move forward with the reboot, that Hulu would step in and give it a chance. No such luck. “We all just wanted a Lizzie McGuire reboot not a How I Met Your Mother sequel with Hilary Duff,” wrote one fan on Twitter. Another fan claimed to be “furious” over the news and would personally rather have had a Lizzie McGuire reboot. Some fans decided to look on the brighter side of things.
Fans Just Wanted 'Lizzie McGuire' Back
“Hilary Duff said if Disney won’t let her be an adult in Lizzie McGuire, then Hulu will in a How I Met Your Mother spin-off,” joked a Twitter user. Making lemons out of lemonade seems to be the key mood amongst a majority of Duff’s fans. A few fans even suggested that they could do something “small” as a nod to the show that everyone was so hyped up to get a reboot for. Ultimately, it’s up to Hulu and Duff where the storyline goes.
Still Some Waiting Time
Besides the fact that they were torn on the announcement, one thing was consistent; Fans were happy that Duff was going to continue to show up for them every week even after seven years on Younger (the series is coming to an end after this season). The spinoff series will have 10 episodes and hopefully by then Duff’s fans will have seen enough exposure to choose a side. No premiere date has been announced yet but seeing as Duff just had a baby, fans may have to hang on just a little while longer.
