Hilary Duff has been in the news for some bizarre storylines these past few weeks. Most notably allowing her son to witness the birth of her latest child. The birth was actually a water birth, which made for a very interesting Instagram pic and podcast topic for Duff.
Now she actually has some pretty big career news to share as well. Duff has been cast in the lead role in what essentially will be a How I Met Your Mother spin-off on Hulu.
Is the former Lizzie McGuire start going to be channeling her inner Ted Mosby for this new role? From the looks of things, the answer is actually, yes! The premise of this new story is going to fall pretty much in line with what we saw with the original How I Met Your Mother series.
In this case, Duff’s character is going to be telling her son the story of she met his father running through all of the anecdotes she had with a group of friends. These events will be present-day situations as we saw on the original show.
Where are we getting this news from? Well, different outlets have been reporting on these rumors for a while, but this time around it was Duff herself who took to social media to confirm the news.
In an Instagram post, Duff mentioned that she,
“[I] Will be playing the role of Sophie, I am very excited to dig in and start figuring out who Sophie is”.
In the same post, she urges people to “suit up” in the words of the famous Barney Stinson.
One of the things that may not sit all that well with some of the fans of How I Met Your Mother is that there seems to be very little involvement from the original writers. “How I Met Your Father” is set to be written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger who collaborated on This is Us and Love, Simon.
The fact that many of the brains from the original show are not on board could also mean that we won’t be seeing much of Ted, Robin, Barney, Marshall, or Lilly next to Duff.
Back in 2020, there was a lot of hype surrounding a potential reboot of the Lizzie MacGuire series for Disney Plus. The project got pretty far into development but ultimately did not see the light of day. There were even rumors that this project could move to another streaming service like Hulu.
So far it seems that the project is off the table for the foreseeable future. It’s not clear also whether or not Hilary Duff will also continue to reprise her role as Kelsey Peters on Younger
