Nick Cannon has opened up on how his ex-wife, Mariah Carey, is coping with the recent loss of her mom, Patricia, and sister, Alison.
Cannon noted that Carey is "doing the best she possibly can" and has been spending time with their children, 13-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, who have been a source of support to her.
The "Wild 'N Out" star also admitted that raising his now-teenagers with Mariah Carey has been "the scariest thing" in the world, as he recently realized that his daughter had started wearing makeup.
Nick Cannon Shares Update On Mariah Carey's Well-being
In a red carpet interview with Page Six at the Fox Fall Press Day in Los Angeles, Cannon broke his silence on his ex-wife Mariah Carey's well-being after she mourned the death of her mom and sister last month.
"She's doing the best that she possibly can, considering the circumstances," Cannon told the news outlet. "But as a family, we just got to be there to support one another, show love."
The 43-year-old comedian, who tied the knot with Carey in April 2008 before finalizing their split in 2016, added that the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" singer relies on their children for support during this difficult time.
"She's really having a great time with the kids," he said. "That is, you know, the most important thing in the world to her, so it's outstanding to see them supporting their mom the way they do."
Mariah Carey Lost Her Mom And Sister On The Same Day
Carey has seemingly been coping with the weight of grief following the loss of her mom, Patricia, and sister, Alison, on the same day at the ages of 87 and 63, respectively. The Grammy-winning singer, who was estranged from the pair for many years before their death, took to social media at the time to announce their passing.
"My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day," Carey said in a statement to People.
"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed," she added. "I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."
Carey explained in her 2020 memoir, "The Meaning of Mariah Carey," that her "ex-sister" Alison tried to get her to use drugs and "inflicted [her] with third-degree burns" before she became a teenager.
"When I was 12 years old, my sister drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine ... and tried to sell me out to a pimp," she wrote in her memoir. "Something in me was arrested by all that trauma. That is why I often say, I'm eternally 12. I am still struggling through that time."
The Singer Admitted It Was A 'Rough Couple' Of Weeks For Her
Carey recently admitted to the emotional toll of losing her mom and sister on the same day. She took to her Instagram account to share a video of herself rehearsing ahead of her upcoming shows in China and Brazil.
In the clip, she sings a slow version of her 2005 track "It's Like That" before telling her viewers, "We'll see you soon, China."
"Back at work. It's been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone's love and support so much and I can't wait to see my fans in China & Brazil," Carey captioned the post. "Love you!" She captioned the post, concluding with three emojis of a heart.
Nick Cannon Also Talked About Raising Their Children
In his conversation with Page Six, Cannon also opened up on what raising his now-teenagers with Carey means for him, admitting that it has been "the scariest thing" in the world.
"My daughter, she's wearing makeup now. She doesn't wear it a lot, luckily, but it scared me," he said of Monroe. "Like, we were getting ready to go, we're in Malibu about to go to dinner, and I was like, 'What is taking her so long?'"
The "Love Don't Cost A Thing" actor then disclosed that when he went to check up on her, he found hair and makeup products scattered "all over" her bedroom.
"I was like, 'Wow, you're just like your mom,'" he shared. "It's beautiful to see, but scary all at the same time."
Cannon is also dad to Golden, 7, Powerful Queen, 3, and Rise, 1, whom he had with Brittany Bell; 3-year-old twins Zion and Zillion and Beautiful, 1, with Abby De La Rosa; Legendary, 2, with Bre Tiesi; Onyx, 2, with LaNisha Cole; and Halo, 1, with Alyssa Scott.
He also fathered a baby boy named Zen with Scott but lost him at five months old in 2021 due to a brain tumor.
Nick Cannon Says He's Happy Mariah Carey Moved On From Him
Cannon's recent remarks come after the talk show host admitted that he indulged in "crazy antics" while he was married to Carey.
He made the remarks when he attended the Fox Fall Press Day in L.A. on September 5th, addressing recent comments that he would "absolutely" get back with the "Emotions" singer.
"Yeah, she don't want me," he told the news outlet. "She's moved on from my crazy antics."
In August, Cannon told E! News that he was hopeful he and Carey could reconcile and take a second chance at love.
"We belong together," he stated, adding that he would "absolutely" get back together with her and that it would "be stupid if [he] didn't."
Regarding why that was not happening, he said, "She don't want me."
