Taylor Swift is proving that star power can indeed make waves in politics.
On Tuesday night, right after the fiery presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, the pop mega-star took to Instagram to reveal her endorsement, throwing her support behind Democrat Kamala Harris for president and Tim Walz for vice president.
Not stopping there, Taylor Swift also urged her 283 million followers to check their voter registration status ahead of the November 5 election.
Taylor Swift's Endorsement Leads To Over 330,000 Clicks To The Voting Registration Website
In just half a day, Taylor Swift's Instagram post directed over 337,000 people to the Vote.gov site, according to a spokesperson from the General Services Administration who was quoted in The Mercury News.
While it’s a huge number, it’s still unclear if these visits turned into actual voter registrations. Vote.gov directs users to their state election sites for registration, so the real impact will be seen once the registrations are processed.

Nonetheless, the pop icon's global reach and star power clearly ignited political enthusiasm and drove serious traffic to voting resources, proving once again that her influence extends well beyond the music charts.
“Taylor Swift’s impact on voter engagement is undeniable,” Andrea Hailey, CEO of the nonprofit Vote.org, a nonpartisan registration and get-out-the-vote technology platform, said. “The important thing to remember is that Taylor’s work serves as a model that everyone with a platform can use to encourage Americans to participate in civic engagement."
"At the heart of it all, every American is an influencer and can help people around them register, vote, and protect access to the ballot box," Hailey added.
Taylor Swift Encourages Fans To Get Out And Vote
After months of speculation, the "Love Story" singer has put the rumors to rest and announced her choice for the upcoming presidential election. Taylor Swift took to social media to share her endorsement, making it clear who she’s backing in the presidential race.
"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," she announced. "I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos."
She then urged her fans to register to vote. “I also want to say, especially to first-time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered!” Swift wrote in her Instagram post. “I also find it’s much easier to vote early,” Swift continued. “I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.”
Not only did Taylor Swift share a link to the voting registration website, but she used her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards as a way to, once again, remind people to get out and vote.
Vote.org Sees A 585% Increase In Visitors
Following Tuesday night's intense debate, Vote.org experienced a jaw-dropping 585% increase in visitors using its tools to register or verify their registration, compared to the same time period over the previous week. The debate, which aired on the West Coast, set the stage for Taylor Swift’s endorsement, which came shortly after and likely fueled the surge in traffic.
Swift, a long-time supporter of Vote.org, has previously rallied her followers to engage in civic duties, and her influence remains strong. Her call to action for National Voter Registration Day in September 2023 showed that her fans take her messages seriously, as evidenced by this latest spike in voter engagement, per NPR.
