Pop star Britney Spears released her wildly successful memoir "The Woman In Me" in 2023 but it looks like her ex-husband, actor Sam Asghari, never read it!
The memoir was written shortly before the "Special Ops: Lioness" actor filed for divorce in August 2023 citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. The two started dating in 2016 after meeting on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016 and tied the knot in June 2022, only a few months after her controversial 13-year conservatorship was struck down by a judge in November 2021.
Sam Asghari Confesses He Never Read Britney Spears' Memoir
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Asghari admitted that he did not read Britney Spears' memoir, as per Page Six.
“I did not read the book because I was there,” the actor told the publication in the magazine's September 11 issue. He did not say much about his relationship with the "Toxic" singer and would not share whether or not they are still in touch.
“If my life is private, it’s private. That’s something I’m always going to respect, regardless of any agreement or not,” he explained, referring to the NDA that he reportedly signed. "It's just the values that I have," he added.
Sam Asghari Has 'Mixed Feelings' About The Divorce
He went on to tell the publication that he has mixed feelings about parting ways with the "Oops!... I Did It Again" singer. “When something ends, of course, there’s going to be a moment where you are sad or upset, but just be happy that it ever even happened. Celebrate the past. That’s how I look at it.”
Asghari had previously told People magazine that he was grateful for their relationship back in March. “It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on,” the former personal trainer said at the time.
Asghari Calls Britney Spears Marriage An ‘Amazing Experience’
“I've always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point, they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other,” the actor explained. “That's something I'm never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that's always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life.”
He also told the publication that he is not dating at the moment as he prioritizes his health. “I used to think people that were 30 years old were so old when I was in high school. But every person I talk to, the older they get, the more they get to enjoy life because with age comes wisdom and experiences,” he said. “And I think experiences in life are beautiful, so that's something that I'm just super excited to just be fulfilled with.”
Britney Spears Called Sam Asghari A 'Gift From God'
Britney Spears reportedly turned in the final manuscript for "The Woman In Me" ahead of his divorce filing, so there was nothing negative written about Sam Asghari on the pages of her memoir. In fact, she called him a "gift from God" and listed many of the qualities that she loved about him.
“I have an appreciation for how stable he is. I love that he doesn’t even drink,” she wrote in the final chapters of her book. She also recalled the first time they met, noting that she knew she "wanted him in my life immediately." She went on to write, “The chemistry with us in the beginning was insane. We couldn’t keep our hands off each other.”
Britney Spears Thanks Him For Supporting Her Through Her Conservatorship
Following a public mental health breakdown, the "Crossroads" actress was placed under a court-ordered conservatorship in February 2008 and did not end until it was finally struck down by a judge in November 2021, approximately 13 years later.
The pop star thanked the former personal trainer for giving her the courage to speak out against her "abusive" conservatorship and remembered how he "squeezed" her hand to show his support for her during her open court hearing in June 2021, mere months before her conservatorship ended.
“I look up to him — his consistency with working out and being a good man and being healthy and taking care of me and helping me learn how we can take care of each other,” she wrote before their divorce. “He’s such an inspiration and I’m grateful.”
