Gomez previously weighed in on her desire to become a parent sometime in the future but acknowledged that her health complications would seemingly hamper her chances.

In a November 2022 Rolling Stone edition, she recalled crying in her car because the medications she was taking for her bipolar disorder would likely affect her ability to carry children.

"That's a very big, big, present thing in my life," Gomez told the news outlet before adding that her hopes about raising kids through other means were still solid. "However I'm meant to have them, I will."

She also noted at the time that she hoped she'd have gotten married at age 25.

"I grew up thinking I would be married at 25," she said. "It wrecked me that I was nowhere near that — couldn't be farther from it. It was so stupid, but I really thought my world was over."

According to Rolling Stone, she noted that her health complications also affected her mental health, which brought about inconsistent emotional highs and lows.

"I'm 30, and I'm going to go through moments in my life," she shared at the time. "If there is a silver lining, it's this, 'I remind myself that I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the psychotic break, if it wasn't for my lupus if it wasn't for my diagnosis.' I think I would just probably be another annoying entity that just wants to wear nice clothes all the time. I'm depressed thinking about who I would be."
