Angelina Jolie is ready to leave Los Angeles but is stuck there because of her messy divorce from Brad Pitt and custody agreement of their twins, Vivienne and Knox.
However, once the kids turn 18 next year, the actress says she intends to move far away and travel the world to see her family members.
During an interview, Angelina Jolie also refused to speak about her divorce but talked about her love for being surrounded by her family and loved ones, including her few friends.
Angelina Jolie Hopes To Move Away From Los Angeles Once She's 'Able To Leave'
For the September issue of The Hollywood Reporter, Angelina Jolie spoke about her plans to leave Los Angeles, travel the world, pursue her career, and be surrounded by her loved ones.
The actress revealed that although she's done with LA, she can't leave because of her ongoing divorce battle with Brad Pitt and their custody agreement regarding their kids.
The agreement states that Pitt has visitation rights to their youngest kids, Vivienne and Knox, which means she can't move away with them.
However, once they turn 18 in July 2026, the actress will be free to leave LA. The agreement only applies to the twins, as their four other kids are already adults.
During the interview, Jolie said, "I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they're 18, I'll be able to leave."
So for now, Jolie remains at her home in Los Feliz, not far from Pitt, who is busy with his new film and girlfriend Ines de Ramon.
Angelina Jolie Wants To Be Based In Cambodia And Also Travel The World
Jolie also shared that her preferred country to live in is Cambodia, where there's more "humanity."
She explained that having a big family creates a preference for "privacy, peace, and safety."
"I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be… that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here," Jolie noted.
The actress also spoke about her plans to travel to various countries around the world once she moves away from Los Angeles.
She said, "I'll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I'll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world."
Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Have Been Embroiled In A Bitter Divorce Since 2016
Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, which led to almost eight years of custody battles over their children and lawsuits over their joint winery, Chateau Miraval.
During the THR interview, however, the "Maleficent" actress refused to share any details about the progress of their divorce.
Pitt and Jolie were billed to attend the ongoing Venice Film Festival, but the organizers made plans to ensure they wouldn't cross paths.
The Hollywood stars have new movies showcased at the festival; "Maria" for Jolie and "Wolfs" for Pitt.
Artistic director Alberto Barbera previously spoke to VanityFair. He said, "Angelina will be on the first day, on Thursday [Aug. 29], and she will leave right after with director Pablo Larraín to go to Telluride. So Brad will arrive only on Saturday, to Venice. There is no way that they can cross each other at the Lido."
The Former Couple's Different Parenting Styles Affected Their Marriage
During Pitt and Jolie's short marriage, the actors reportedly clashed over parenting styles for their six children: Maddox, 22; Pax, 20; Zahara, 19; Shiloh, 18; and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.
According to People magazine, their differing approaches contributed to their separation.
"During their marriage, they had very different parenting styles. Brad grew up with the structure and wanted more rules for the kids," an insider told the news outlet. "Angie had a different upbringing and wanted the kids to be more independent and responsible for their own schedules from a young age."
The source mentioned that despite their conflicts, Pitt and Jolie shared the same aspirations for their children.
"Brad and Angie clashed over this," the insider continued. "However, they did always have the same vision for their kids' future. They wanted the kids to thrive by experiencing the world first-hand and not only learn from traditional schooling."
Angelina Jolie Shares Why She Doesn't Have Many Friends In Hollywood
During her interview with THR, Jolie also spoke about her love for being surrounded by her loved ones.
She said, "I'm not somebody begging to be alone. I'm not that person that feels like, 'Oh, I wish I could just be alone so I could have my guilty pleasures.' Because usually, my guilty pleasure is being with somebody. I love doing something that makes them happy. That really does make me happy."
However, the "Salt" actress doesn't have many friends in Hollywood, which she attributed to "betrayal."
She explained that her lack of relationships in the industry is likely due to "losing your parent young," her busy working schedule, or the many betrayals.
Jolie added, "I don't have a lot of those warm, close relationships as much that I lean on. But I have a few, and a few is enough. Loung (infamous Cambodian American human rights activist) is one of my closest friends. My mother was very close to me. I lost her. I've had a few friends over the years not be there for my family in their hour of need."
