Quavo Denies Ever Abusing Saweetie After Elevator Altercation Footage Leaked

Earlier this week, the footage was leaked by TMZof Quavo and Saweetie getting into a physical altercation in 2020. This was inside an elevator at the apartment complex of Saweetie's in North Hollywood, CA. Saweetie was seen lunging at Quavo and then, the two were seen tugging on what appears to be a box for a game system. Quavo ended up pulling the hardest and that sent Saweetie on the ground. She was on the ground for a few minutes before deciding to get off the elevator.
Quavo Denies Any History Of Abuse Towards Saweetie
In a statement toPEOPLE, Quavo revealed that the elevator situation was an "unfortuate" one from a year ago. He also added that he has never gotten physical with Saweetie during their relationship. The two broke up in mid-March and revealed this on Twitter.
"We had an unfortunate situation almost a year ago that we both learned and moved on from," he said in a statement to PEOPLE. "I haven't physically abused Saweetie and have real gratitude for what we did share overall."
Saweetie Says There Were Other Hurdles That Ended Their Relationship
Saweetie also spoke with PEOPLEand explained the elevator incident. She revealed that the two moved on and reconciled from that but there were other "hurdles" that led to her relationship with Quavo ultimately ending.
"This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on," Saweetie said in a statement to PEOPLE. "I kindly ask that everyone respect my privacy during this time."
Reports Of Quavo Repossessing Bentley He Gifted To Saweetie Were False
The day after Saweetie and Quavo's breakup, social media spread rumors that Quavo had a Bentley repossessed. This was one that he bought Saweetie for Christmas last year.TMZ went on to report that sources close to Quavo stated that this didn't happen at all. No footage ended up being released either, which made it very hard to validate what others were saying about this repossession happening. It was also said that Quavo supposedly didn't put the Bentley in Saweetie's name.
Saweetie's 'Best Friend' Single Featuring Doja Cat Continues To Dominate
Taken or not, Saweetie is still winning big as an artist. Her latest single, "Best Friend," featuring fellow superstar, Doja Cat, is dominating on the charts. Currently, it stands at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is certified gold by the RIAA in the US. Many fans of Saweetie also hope that her debut studio album will finally arrive this year as well. Her last project that she released was her "ICY" EP in 2019 which contained her breakout hit single, "My Type."
