O.J. Simpson will remain close to his children's hearts as they treasure his remains in the form of accessories.

The late NFL star's longtime lawyer turned executor of his estate recently shared that his four surviving children ordered his ashes to be converted into jewelry. Their father was cremated in April following a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.

The sentimental gesture from O.J. Simpson's children comes months after his attorney claimed they weren't by their father's side when he died.

Malcolm LaVergne, Simpson's longtime lawyer, and executor of his estate, opened up about his client's immortalization in his children's hearts. He shared that his four adult children agreed to have their father's ashes converted into jewelry.

As executor, LaVergne also signed off on the deal but did not get any of the accessories with the late athlete's ashes. He stressed that he wasn't interested while the jewelry pieces were divided between Arnelle, Jason, Sydney, and Justin Simpson. (Their sister Aaren died a month before her 2nd birthday in 1979).

LaVergne wouldn't share what type of accessories Simpson's children made, but cremation jewelry typically features necklaces or bracelets with miniature urns as pendants. According to TMZ, the process cost $4,243.06, including the cremation, jewelry, and death certificates bills.

Simpson's Estate Is Plagued With Massive Debts

Spending over $4,000 to immortalize their late father was a touching gesture in many ways, especially with the crushing debt on Simpson's estate. The Blast recently shared that LaVergne lamented the mess his client left behind.

He explained that Simpson had millions to pay back, including the compensation fee he was ordered to pay the Goldman family. The deceased fell from grace in 1994 following the murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

Although Simpson was acquitted of the murders, he was found liable in a civil suit filed by the victims' families and ordered to pay $33.5 million. LaVergne noted he was trying to settle his late client's obligations by foraging for funds.

The first step involved bringing in over $269,000 from the deceased's "forever" home in Las Vegas. He noted he might have to butt heads with his son, Justin, who helped the 76-year-old son purchase the property in 2022.

The Executor Believes The 'Forever' Home Belongs To The Estate

Simpson's lawyer estimated he put about $159K into the Las Vegas home, which he believed had significantly doubled over the years. He argued that the equity and the amount his late client put into the house belonged to his estate.

Getting Simpson's "forever" home was a small step in resolving his crushing debts, with the $33.5 million judgment being the biggest problem. Because the late NFL star failed to settle the debt sooner, its interest skyrocketed.

The accrued interest on the judgment had reportedly increased the bill to around $100 million. If that wasn't bad enough, the State of California also slammed Simpson's estate with a $500K tax lien.

These mounting debts, per LaVergne, made the estate "virtually worthless." He noted that he was desperately trying to fund the estate and pay back these debts; however, he allegedly faced resistance to his efforts.

Although LaVergne didn't reveal where the "strong resistance" was coming from, he noted that he was taking off the kid gloves for everyone. The list included Simpson's family, with his lawyer seemingly hinting at shady incidents behind the scenes.

Simpson's estate executor claimed that personal belongings, such as the 76-year-old's Pro Football Hall of Fame ring and a fancy Rolex, had gone missing. "It belongs to the estate, and I want it placed at my feet," LaVergne declared.

The attorney also shared his plans to place several of Simpson's personal items on the auction block. LaVergne revealed he was seeking permission to sell them as another way to raise money for the estate.

O.J. Simpson's Children Were Reportedly Not By His Deathbed

Following Simpson's death in April, The Blast reported that an initial statement from his family claimed he "succumbed to his battle with cancer" while "surrounded by his children and grandchildren." However, LaVergne refuted these claims.

He stressed that Simpson's children and grandchildren were nowhere near his deathbed when he took his final breath. Instead, the 76-year-old passed away in the presence of a "close family member," who LaVergne refused to identify.

Perhaps O.J. Simpson's children chose to turn his ashes into accessories after failing to be by his side in his final moments.
