Channing Tatum is stepping up his efforts to finalize his divorce from Jenna Dewan and renewing his push to terminate spousal support.
The actor responded to Dewan's concerns about unresolved "Magic Mike" matters earlier this year by insisting that their divorce settlement should move forward without the need for continued financial support.
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, who split in 2018 after nine years of marriage, have been embroiled in a legal battle over their divorce settlement.
Channing Tatum Believes Jenna Dewan Can Support Herself Financially
Although the former pair initially reached a quick agreement on the custody of their daughter, Everly, the financial aspects of their split have proven far more contentious.
Tatum argues that Dewan's request is inappropriate given their relatively short marriage, which lasted just over eight years. The actor said in his filing:
"I do not believe [Jenna's] request for spousal support is appropriate. We had a short term marriage of eight years and eight months and separated over six years ago."
He highlighted that the actress is fully capable of supporting herself through her work and receiving substantial residuals, royalties, and other investment income. Tatum explicitly stated:
"[Jenna] works, is able to contribute to her own support, and will receive one-half of the community property residuals and royalties and income from other investments."
In the documents obtained by In Touch, the father-of-one pointed out that Dewan has already received millions in cash assets as part of their divorce and will receive more once the remainder of their estate is divided.
Tatum insists that, given these factors, her request for ongoing financial support is unreasonable.
The 'Step Up' Star Pushed For Trial In Lingering Divorce Dispute With Dewan
Keen to move past the ongoing legal battle, Tatum intensified his efforts to break the financial deadlock in his drawn-out divorce from Dewan, suggesting that a trial might be the only solution.
The Blast noted that the 44-year-old's legal team emphasized the necessity of a court trial to settle the unresolved financial matters that have plagued their separation.
A significant point of contention remains Tatum's involvement in the "Magic Mike" franchise, both during their marriage and after their separation, which requires a detailed evaluation of their shared and individual assets.
Despite multiple attempts to negotiate a settlement with Dewan outside the courtroom, Tatum admits that little progress has been made.
Dewan Accused Tatum Of Hiding 'Magic Mike' Profits
In the latest twist of their prolonged divorce saga, the 43-year-old accused her ex-husband of hiding profits from his successful "Magic Mike" franchise.
In court documents obtained by The Blast, the dancer asserted that Tatum and his business manager allegedly downplayed the films' value and earnings. She claims they funneled money through a complex web of companies and partnerships.
Dewan also alleged that Tatum mishandled their shared assets by transferring significant portions of the "Magic Mike" enterprise to third parties without her knowledge or consent, both during and after their marriage.
'The Rookie' Star Sought Court-Ordered Report On Tatum Family Trust
During their heated divorce proceedings, Dewan took more legal action to secure her share of the profits from the "Magic Mike" franchise.
The dancer filed a petition requesting a court order requiring Tatum to provide a full report on The Tatum Family Trust. She believed the trust was one of the primary recipients of the film's earnings.
Her legal team argued that if communal funds had been funneled into the trust, Tatum should be required to reimburse Dewan for half of the amount transferred.
Additionally, Dewan sought assurance that if the trust continued to receive profits from "Magic Mike" projects, Tatum would be obligated to remit her rightful share.
In her filing, Dewan also requested the court's approval of her entitlement to an equal stake in any future "Magic Mike" ventures.
Channing Tatum And Jenna Dewan's Divorce Hearing Involves Key Witnesses
In April, The Blast reported that the former pair listed each other as key witnesses for their divorce hearing, where they aimed to finalize their settlement.
Dewan expressed the need for Tatum to testify on various aspects of their marriage, mainly focusing on business and financial issues. The actress also called upon several witnesses, including Tatum's business manager, Eric Fulton, and his accountant, Tracy Faryl Katz.
Meanwhile, Tatum countered by summoning Dewan and her fiancé, Steve Kazee, to testify on their living arrangements, shared expenses, and other relevant matters.
The former couple was scheduled to appear in court on April 12 to discuss the division of their property. The discussions also covered attorneys' fees, breach of fiduciary duty claims, and ongoing support issues.
With both parties firmly holding their ground, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's divorce saga will likely draw even more attention.
