It is official! Brad Pitt's daughter, Shiloh Jolie, is no longer a "Pitt."
The 18-year-old has officially ditched her estranged dad's surname as the court granted her name change request.
Shiloh Jolie decided to drop Brad Pitt's last name three days after her 18th birthday in May, amid his bitter divorce battle with Angelina Jolie.
Brad Pitt's Daughter Granted Name Change
The 18-year-old's request was reportedly granted without a formal hearing or drama, as she was fully committed to moving on from the "Pitt" name. Shiloh is now the third offspring of the Jolie-Pitt union to distance themselves from their famous dad's last name.
She joined Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, who dropped "Pitt" from her last name during a sorority event last November. Zahara was adopted by Angelina in July 2005 and by Brad in early 2006.
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt was the first to go the name-dropping route when she referred to herself as Vivienne Jolie in credits for Broadway's "The Outsiders" as a production assistant. The estranged couple welcomed Vivienne and her twin brother, Knox, in 2008.
Per TMZ, Brad and Angelina's kids' actions are reportedly fueled by their parents' ongoing divorce battle, which has their children picking Angelina's side in the drama.
Shiloh Jolie Started The Name Change Without Help
In July, The Blast reported that the 18-year-old reportedly hired a lawyer and financed the legal process from her pocket. A source close to her revealed that Shiloh's famous mom was not aware of her decision to begin the name change process and "can't speak for it."
They continued that the name change is "connected to the abuse history or the violation of Shiloh's victim's rights," which occurred during a private jet flight between Angelina and Brad in 2016 in the presence of their six kids, including Shiloh.
Shiloh also published a statement in the Los Angeles Times announcing her intention to change her name publicly.
The publication complied with California laws that mandate it before a name change request can get approval from a judge. Once the intent is published, the name change request is displayed in the legal notice section of the paper.
However, a court clerical error almost marred the process. The name change hearing was postponed because no background check was conducted before the filing.
Shiloh's attorney, Peter Levine, confirmed that the hearing was moved to August 19 in July because everyone "undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk."
The Actor Was Not Pleased With Shiloh's Decision
While the actor had been aware of his daughter's decision to change her name since June, the fact that she went through with it reportedly left him upset.
A source close to Brad confirmed that the actor saw Shiloh's action as a "reminder that he's lost his children… he loves his children and misses them. It's very sad."
Another insider also revealed that the 60-year-old has "virtually no contact" with his adult children and does not enjoy quality time with the younger ones due to his hectic itinerary.
At the time of Shiloh's publication, the actor was working on his upcoming racing flick, F1, on location abroad.
Brad Pitt Felt Angelina Jolie Turned The Kids Against Him
Although Brad was upset by the action, he was not surprised it finally happened. Sources close to him shared that he saw it coming and blamed Angelina for it.
The Blast shared that sources close to the Golden Globe winner reportedly feel that his estranged wife has "slowly but surely turned their kids against him." The source also claimed Angelina influenced their decisions to distance themselves from their father.
The father of six, however, reportedly still felt the same joy he felt when Shiloh was born despite dropping his name. The insider stated that Brad always wanted a daughter, and Shiloh was his first.
What Happened On The Plane in 2016?
Everything changed in the celebrity union after the altercation on their private plane carrying them home from a two-week family vacation.
According to an FBI report, Brad allegedly engaged in verbal and physical abuse with the humanitarian during their argument on the plane.
Their six children were also witnesses at the scene and watched in tears as their parents went at each other.
The heated exchange reportedly left the “Salt” actress with multiple injuries to her back and elbow, while Brad suffered a scratch on his body.
The estranged couple refused to file criminal charges following the incident due to several undisclosed factors, but it left an indelible mark on their marriage.
Will any of the other Jolie-Pitt kids change their names? Only time will tell.
