The actor was said to have displayed a severe reaction to Ketamine a few weeks before he passed away from the overdose.
Two doctors were charged in connection to Matthew Perry's sudden death, his assistant, and two other individuals specialized in the sale of illegal drugs, including Ketamine.
Matthew Perry 'Froze Up' From Previous Ketamine Dosage
The prosecutors on the case addressed the press at the U.S. Attorney news conference on Thursday, stating that Dr Salvador Plasencia visited the actor's residence about two weeks before his death.
The purpose of his visit was to allegedly inject the actor with a large dose of Ketamine. This caused Perry's blood pressure to shoot up and made him freeze.
Upon his reaction, a scared Plasencia consulted with Perry's assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, saying that they had ditched the idea of placing him on a large dosage moving forward.
However, their decision did not stand for long as Iwamasa continued to inject Perry nearly 30 times in the days leading to his passing.
When they could not meet at home to inject him with the drug, TMZ shared that Plasencia reportedly met up with Perry in a Long Beach parking lot to administer the drug.
Perry Reportedly Had A Final Dose Right Before His Death
New details show that the actor had Iwamasa administer Ketamine three times before his death. He reportedly ordered the assistant to "shoot him up with a big one" in the last hours of his life.
Now Plasencia and Dr. Mark Chavez have been charged for his sudden demise along with Iwamasa, a drug broker known as Erik Fleming, and Jasveen Sangha, who is popularly tagged the "Ketamine Queen of Los Angeles."
Plasencia was allegedly caught via text expressing his desire to swindle Perry for the drug purchases, texting his cohorts," I wonder how much this moron will pay."
Plasencia and Sangha have pled not guilty to the charges, and their trial dates are now set for October. Chavez, Fleming, and Iwamasa have all struck plea deals.
Perry's Assistant Took A Plea Deal
The Blast reported that Iwamasa owned up to his crimes on August 7, pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute Ketamine, causing death.
This means he risks facing a 15-year prison sentence for his role in the federal case. Iwamasa worked with Perry for over two decades and lived in his Los Angeles home until his death.
It was confirmed that Iwamasa agreed to cooperate with the prosecutors in the ongoing investigation alongside Fleming, who could face 25 years behind bars. With this development, both men may have their sentences significantly reduced and walk out of prison sooner than projected.
As for Plasencia, the medical practitioner who worked as an urgent care physician in Calabasas, California, showed no concern or empathy for Perry's wellbeing as he struggled with his substance addiction.
Instead, the medic saw the "Friends" actor as a cash cow and profited from his addiction, which Perry initially used to treat his anxiety and depression but became addicted to along the way.
The TV Personality Reportedly Became Extremely Dependent On Ketamine
With individuals willing to feed his strong preference for dissociative anesthesia, Perry became "so obsessed" with the drug that he even considered trading in it.
A close pal who was aware of the actor's fondness for the substance said, "He was telling me this is fantastic. He wanted to go into business with this one guy in Glendale or somewhere in the Valley."
The friend noted that Perry was getting his desired supply in large numbers from the individual, which was a terrible way to interact with an "addict."
Matthew Perry's Family Impressed With Law Enforcement
The Blast previously shared that the actor's stepfather, who was Perry's mom in 1981, conveyed the family's gratitude for the zeal law enforcement has displayed in bringing the culprits to book.
Keith Morrison's statement read, "We were and still are heartbroken by Matthew's death, but it has helped to know law enforcement has taken his case very seriously. We look forward to justice taking its course."
The declaration comes following the recent arrests made in connection to the supply of ketamine Perry received before his demise in October 2023.
The actor, who was 54 years old at the time of his passing, was buried in a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
Will more arrests be made in Matthew Perry's cause-of-death investigation?
