'Goldbergs' Actor George Segal Remembered By TV Grandson Sean Giambrone

The tragic passing of Oscar-nominated actor George Segal deeply affected his "Goldbergs" castmates.
Segal's wife, Sonia Segal, confirmed in a statement that the legendary actor passed away on Tuesday, March 23. "The family is devastated to announce that this morning George Segal passed away due to complications from bypass surgery," a statement obtained by ET read. The late star's tv family was also devastated, and Segal's tv grandson, Sean Giambrone penned an emotional message that explained how much George meant to him and the rest of the "Goldbergs" cast.

"My heart is broken. I lost a dear friend," Giambrone wrote on social media shortly after the news of George's passing broke. "Working with George was an honor and some of the happiest moments of my life. What a sweet & wonderful man. He was my confidant & teacher. When he smiled it changed my day. I wish everyone could have met him. I love you George and I’ll miss you so much. My prayers are with the family."

Segal found success as an actor in the mid-1960s with roles in "Ship of Fools," "King Rat," "Lost Command," and many others. His most popular role came in the 1966 film, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," a part that earned him an Oscar nomination. He also earned a Golden Globe for his role in "A Touch of Class" in 1974.
George resurged onto the acting scene again in the 90s when he portrayed the fashion magazine publisher on the NBC sitcom "Just Shoot Me." In 2013, he took the role of grandpa Albert on the ABC show "The Goldbergs." Segal had already finished the eighth season of the show, which is currently airing. His last episode will air on April 7.
The star's longtime friend and manager, Abe Hoch, shared a statement about George's real-life character. "I am saddened by the fact that my close friend and client of many years has passed away. I will miss his warmth, humor, camaraderie and friendship. He was a wonderful human." RIP George, you will be missed!
