Flavor Flav is coming through with his promise to gift Jordan Chiles a bronze necklace after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that Chiles must return her bronze medal.

The news came after the 23-year-old gymnast’s dramatic bronze medal win in the floor exercise final, secured by a last-minute appeal from her coach, Cecile Landi. Landi’s challenge prompted a score revision that propelled Chiles from fifth to third place, knocking Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu, who had originally claimed the bronze with a score of 13.700, off of the podium.

Shortly before the CAS announced that Jordan Chiles had to return her bronze medal, the gymnast decided to take a step back from social media.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) initially found that Head Coach Cecile Landi's appeal was submitted outside the one-minute deadline. USA Gymnastics fired back, claiming they have video proof that the inquiry was actually within the allowed time.

However, on August 12, the Court of Arbitration for Sport said it would not consider overturning its ruling despite new evidence from USA Gymnastics.

“USA Gymnastics was notified by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Monday that their rules do not allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented,” USA Gymnastics said in a statement. “We are deeply disappointed by the notification and will continue to pursue every possible avenue and appeal process, including the Swiss Federal Tribunal, to ensure that just scoring, placement and medal award for Jordan.”

USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee released a joint statement following the ruling: “We are devastated. The inquiry in the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise routine was filed in good faith and, we believed, in accordance with FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring.”

The statement also noted Chiles had been subjected to “utterly baseless and extremely hurtful attacks on social media.”

Following the CAS decision and announcement, Jordan Chiles told her followers that she would be taking a break from social media. “I am taking this time and removing myself from social media for my mental health thank you,” she wrote.
