American singer Demi Lovato has been in several pubic relationships, some of which ended amicably and the others spiraled into a public showdown.
Early last year, she was engaged to actor Max Ehrich, but before they could walk down the aisle, they split up. After the breakup, Ehrich was vocal about the relationship and how it ended.
He said that he had to hear about the breakup from social media.
Now, Lovato is opening up about the breakup and says she didn't expect Ehrich to handle the separation the way he did. Initially, they kept their relationship private until Lovato accidentally appeared in one of Ehrich's Instagram live videos.
Love
After the accidental appearance, the pair were engaged by July, which seemed like a great sign to their fans.
Lovato announced the engagement on Instagram in a since-deleted post. In the post, she wrote, "You never pressure me to be anything other than myself."
She continued the post and noted that Ehrich encouraged her to be the best version of herself and expressed how honored she was to be his intended bride.
She added that she was enthusiastic about starting a family with her now former fiancé. However, things went South for the couple after a video from 2018 where Ehrich claimed he wanted to marry his fianceé's best friend, Selena Gomez.
Choosing The Best Path
Barely two months after announcing their engagement, the couple split up. In a recent statement, Lovato shared that although splitting up was a tough decision for them, they both concluded that it was the best decision to focus on their careers instead.
A source close to the former couple told Entertainment Tonight that they will continue to cherish their time together.
In a new documentary titled "Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil," the singer shared that she didn't know Ehrich. She explained in an chat with Entertainment Tonight that she rushed into something she thought she was supposed to do, but it turned out she didn't know her former fiancé well.
The Lovers Quarantine
The "Heart Attack" singer believed that the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine affected their relationship.
She shared that she could not hang out with her best friends, which made the breakup especially hard on her. She added that the separation made her realize that she might not be as straight as she thought.
She shared that she currently feels too queer to marry a man, but she was unwilling to put a label on her feelings just yet as there are many things she wants to achieve first.
Love, Always
In an Instagram post after the breakup, Ehrich spoke about his upcoming movie project titled "Southern Gospel."
He also spoke about the film and shared it was a biopic about a Pastor in a Christian Church who had the intentions of helping anyone he came across, that needed it.
Although, fans were excited about the actor’s upcoming movie, they wanted to know where he stood about his feelings for Lovato.
The following day, Ehrich went back to Instagram and begged Lovato to make contact with him. He mentioned that they haven't spoken on the phone since, and he would like to do so. He also disclosed that he still loved her no matter what.
