On Tuesday, presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris revealed that she has chosen Tim Walz as her running mate.

Harris announced she would be running against Donald Trump in the upcoming election shortly after President Joe Biden announced he would be dropping out of the race. While the current President of the United States, said it has been "the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President," he said he feels it is in the best interest "of my party and the country to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president."

Days after Kamala Harris confirmed her spot in the upcoming presidential race, Maya Rudolph announced she would reprise her Emmy-winning role as the Vice President on "Saturday Night Live" this fall, but who could portray her running mate, Tim Walz? Social media users have spoken.

On Tuesday, Harris selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, catapulting the outspoken Midwestern leader into the national spotlight and leading her campaign with a key ally.

A military veteran, former public school teacher, and six-term congressman, Walz is midway through his second term as governor of Minnesota. He is also a supporter of President Biden, previously praising him as an “American hero” after Biden exited the race.

Harris shared a one-minute video on social media capturing the moment she extended the invitation to Walz to join her on the Democratic ticket Tuesday morning.

"I would be honored Madam Vice President," Walz said over the phone in the clip. "The joy that you're bringing back to the country, the enthusiasm that's out there, it'll be a privilege to take this with you across the country."

"I have just the utmost respect for you. I have really enjoyed our work together. You understand our country. You have dedicated yourself to our country in so many different beautiful ways," Harris replied. "We're gonna win and we're gonna unify our country and remind everyone that we are fighting for the future for everyone."

Following the news, social media didn't hesitate to cast Walz in the upcoming season of "Saturday Night Live."

Social Media Users Want Steve Martin To Play Tim Walz On 'Saturday Night Live'

Walz clinched victory as Harris' running mate, despite not being an early front-runner. After facing about a dozen potential nominees, he emerged as a late favorite for the coveted spot. Just hours after Harris unveiled Walz as her VP pick, X users began speculating about a potential future role on "Saturday Night Live."

"So Steve Martin is definitely gonna play Walz on 'SNL' right?" one user wrote alongside a photo of Walz and Martin.

"Oh Steve Martin, get your a-- to NYC NOW! 'SNL' needs you! another said.

Should Steve Martin Return To The 'SNL' Stage?

The actor soon began trending on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, after Harris announced Walz as her running mate. "

"And just like that we have a Democrat ticket (Harris-Walz) and SNL political pairing (Maya Rudolph-Steve Martin). I’m ready for it," one social media user said.

"Steve Martin for #SNL’s Tim Walz We must manifest this, people!" another said.

Others, however, want Rick Moranis. "And everyone saying Steve Martin is the 'must play Tim Walz' on 'SNL,' I raise you... Rick Moranis," one X user wrote.

As The Blast reported on Tuesday, Barack and Michelle Obama shared a joint statement about Governor Walz's selection as Harris's running mate. "By selecting Tim Walz to be her vice president from a pool of outstanding Democrats, Kamala Harris has chosen an ideal partner — and made it clear exactly what she stands for," the couple said.

"As governor, Tim helped families and businesses recover from the pandemic, established paid family leave, guaranteed the right to an abortion, and put common sense gun safety measures in place to keep communities safe," they later added.

"Charmed" actress Alyssa Milano also shared support for Harris and Walz.
