Reese Witherspoon has broken her silence regarding a recently resurfaced clip from a 2021 episode of Tucker Carlson's former Fox News show where J.D. Vance, then a candidate for the Ohio Senate, made a controversial statement.
The "Friends" star, known for keeping her political views private, recently reached a tipping point as she took to Instagram Stories to express her frustrations with J.D. Vance's recent remarks.
While many Americans slammed Donald Trump's running mate, many actors and actresses are also chiming in, with Reese Witherspoon being the latest celebrity to take a stance, siding with Jennifer Aniston.
J.D. Vance's Controversial Comments Resurface Ahead Of 2024 Presidential Election
In the recently resurfaced video, Vance argued that the U.S. is being led by "a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable with their own lives and the choices they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too."
He further commented, “It’s just a basic fact — you look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC — the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”
Jennifer Aniston Slams J.D. Vance
After watching the resurfaced clip, Jennifer Aniston took to her Instagram Stories to share her thoughts. “All I can say is… Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day,” Aniston wrote on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday. “I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option."
"Because you are trying to take that away from her, too," the "Friends" actress added.
The comment regarding "childless" women isn't the only controversial statement Vance has made. In another resurfaced clip, the now 39-year-old said, "This is one of the great tricks that I think the sexual revolution pulled on the American populace, which is the idea that like, 'Well, OK, these marriages were fundamentally, you know, they were maybe even violent, but certainly they were unhappy."
"And so getting rid of them and making it easier for people to shift spouses like they change their underwear, that's going to make people happier in the long term," he added. "And maybe it worked out for the moms and dads, though I'm skeptical. But it really didn't work out for the kids of those marriages."
Reese Witherspoon Thanks Jennifer Aniston For Speaking Up
After seeing Jennifer Aniston's Instagram Stories, Reese Witherspoon, Aniston's costar in "The Morning Show," re-shared the post and thanked her for speaking out.
"Thank you for saying this so gracefully," the "Legally Blonde" actress said.
Others spoke out about J.D. Vance's comments on social media, as one X user said, "How insulting is he to women who can’t have children?"
"He needs to go," another said.
Reese Witherspoon Once Had A Dream To Be Elected Into Office
In 2020, the "Big Little Lies" actress shared a post on Instagram, revealing that she once wanted to run for President of the United States.
"I woke up this morning thinking about a moment from my childhood," she wrote in the caption, per Harper's Bazaar. "In the 3rd grade our teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, I raised my hand and said, 'I want to be the first female President of the United States of America.' Some of the kids laughed, but my teacher looked me in the eye and said, 'I will be the first person to vote for you, Reese.'"
Expressing Support For Kamala Harris
Four years ago, before Kamala Harris became the Vice President, Reese Witherspoon showed her support for the now 59-year-old, writing, "My thoughts today are with women in our country, especially the young Black and Brown girls of our nation."
"Who have watched their mothers hold up their families, their communities, their cities, their states? Now you know that YOU too can work hard, dedicate your life to service, and show up every day to help others," she continued. "And YOU can RISE to become a Vice Presidential nominee in the United States of America. Today is a truly historic day!"
