Selena Gomez could be compared to the colorful background in Katy Perry’s music video for her song “Never Worn White”. Ornate, elegant, fascinating to watch, and seemingly ever-present even when the camera shifts position.
The 28-year-old “Hands To Myself” singer has continuously proven that she will not be contained in any kind of mold, nor will she restrict herself creatively even when her career takes on a less common appearance. Case in point, several of her latest songs include Spanish lyrics and even show Gomez wearing Latin-inspired outfits, whereas much of her career has been primarily Western-American based.
This new approach, branching out to different kinds of music and public image was a brilliant move. Not only has it established Selena as a respectable Latin-themed artist, allowing her music to make waves in other ethnic music charts, but her latest music caught the attention of many prominent news outlets who are all dying to get an interview with her.
The first of what is expected to be many featured magazine interviews was with Vogue Magazine. Specifically for their April edition in the US.
The occasion was marked with jubilation from fans to see the “Naturally” singer featured on yet another magazine. The reason for being featured is also a cause for celebration since it wasn’t just because she had released new music, but also because she has become more mature as a person, she even branched into politics, voting for the first time in her life in the last election.
During the interview with Vogue, she shared how she has experienced so many changes in her life. From the more minute details about how she has been spending her time, to the more intimate details about her health, this is one interview that covers all bases!
‘This Disney Girl’
Selena made it a point to note that she is very much aware of how the public views her. One could easily have guessed that she was barely 21 since she remains so effortlessly youthful, and she believes that this isn’t an accurate interpretation of her character.
“I still live with this haunting feeling that people still view me as this Disney girl.”
It is no secret that Selena has adopted a different style in her music and career, but the mature image she has been building isn’t always the one that people remember.
‘Hard To Keep Doing Music’
Shockingly, Selena also told Vogue that she is seriously considering retiring music after her next album, and it has to do with how people see her.
“It’s hard to keep doing music when people don’t necessarily take you seriously,” she’d said. “I’ve had moments where I’ve been like, ‘What’s the point? Why do I keep doing this?’ ‘Lose You to Love Me’ I felt was the best song I’ve ever released, and for some people it still wasn’t enough. I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I’m so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different. I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.”
