Last year, Kanye West stunned the world on July 4 when he revealed that he would be running for president. At the time, his chances seemed over from the start though as he failed to register as a nominee for president in many states and did not submit the proper documents at the time. West then did take the steps in many states but a lot of his signatures were not valid to appear on ballots in many states, which ultimately ended any chance he had in the election.
Kanye Violated Multiple Fundraising Practices
According to a report byThe Daily Beast,West could be in trouble for the way he raised money in the presidential election. The Federal Election Commission says that there was multiple violations, including accepting donations from minors. There were also contributions accepted by West from "foreign nationals."
"False names and addresses" were also located at shipping facilities in different parts of the United States. For the first two and a half months of this new year, West reportedly received over $100,000 in "small donations."
16-Year-Old Claims He Spent Over $3,200 In Presidential Merchandise
Regarding the donations from minors, one in particular supported West heavily in regards to purchasing campaign merchandise. 16-year-old Ian Bloom claims that he spent $3,280 on these items. He has yet to receive these, either.
“I don’t know what’s happening there,” Bloom said to The Daily Beast. “I ordered like 20 hoodies off his campaign website, along with a lot of other people that I know. They said it would be three weeks, and after that I emailed the support team, and the email just wasn’t a thing.”
Students Spent Close To $350,000 In Donations
The report also added that 3,161 donations were made. Students made up lot of this as their donation amounts totaled $349,160. $26,540 of those funds were from 2021 as well. This demographic supporting West is no surprise as he remains one of the most popular artists in the world and many were sadly misinformed regarding how crucial the 2020 election was. Joe Biden ended up winning comfortably against Donald Trump as mail-in ballots started to roar in to help Biden gain leads.
West Spent $12 Million Of His Own Money On Presidential Campaign
West also pitched in with a lot of his own funds for his presidential campaign as well.People reported that he spent $12.4 million for the run. This was confirmed by the Federal Election Commission as well. Outside donors sent in $2 million so, the total reached $14,538,989.74. $7.5 million ended up being spent on attempting to get "ballot access" in as many states as he could. Obviously, this ended up being a huge issue as a lot of this money went to waste.
