Former President Donald Trump is breathing a sigh of relief after escaping prosecution for inciting the riot on the U.S. Capitol Building, and he’s using that breath to unload a scathing response against the Democrats, and anyone else, who targeted #45 for a 2nd impeachment. Although some key political figures are calling Trump’s acquittal, “Un-American,” the Senate was unable to secure enough votes from the Republicans against Trump and thus avoided any official charges during his second impeachment trial. Moments after being cleared, Trump sounded off.
Releasing a statement from his legal team, obtained by CNN, former President Trump slammed those who tried to hold him responsible for the riot on the U.S. Capitol Building:
“It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree,” The statement from Trump read.
The statement released by Donald Trump continued:
” I always have, and always will, be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honorably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate.”
According to CNN, Trump also thanked his legal team and those who showed support while he was under fire:
“[All] of the United States Senators and Members of Congress who stood proudly for the Constitution we all revere and for the sacred legal principles at the heart of our country.”
