Shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday, President Joe Biden announced he would be stepping aside in the presidential race.

In the announcement, the President of the United States said it has been "the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President," he feels it is in the best interest "of my party and the country to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president."

Just moments after sharing the news, Joe Biden promptly offered his “full support and endorsement” of Vice President Kamala Harris.

ActBlue Reports Nearly $47M Raised For Kamala Harris's Presidential Campaign

According to an announcement from the Democratic fundraising platform on Sunday, nearly $47 million was raised by small-dollar donors on ActBlue in the seven hours following the launch of Vice President Harris’s presidential campaign on Sunday afternoon.

“As of 9pm ET, grassroots supporters have raised $46.7 million through ActBlue following Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign launch. This has been the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle," ActBlue wrote in an X post, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. "Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election."

According to The New York Times, these donations marked the single biggest day for online Democratic donations since the 2020 election.

In her lengthy statement, the Vice President recognized Biden's endorsement, expressing, "I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination."

"Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election," Harris added. "And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda."

"We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win," the 59-year-old added.

On Sunday, after the President of the United States announced he would be exiting the 2024 Presidential run, Kamala Harris thanked Biden "for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country."

"His remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office," she added. "It is a profound honor to serve as his Vice President, and I am deeply grateful to the President, Dr. Biden, and the entire Biden family."

Both Bill and Hillary Clinton released a statement on Sunday afternoon, announcing their endorsement for Kamala Harris. “Now is the time to support Kamala Harris and fight with everything we’ve got to elect her,” the Clintons said in a joint statement. “America’s future depends on it.” They also recognized Biden’s accomplishments and his presidency.

California Governor Gavin Newsom also released a statement on social media endorsing the Vice President. “With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump’s dark vision,” he said.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez offered her full support to Harris. “Now more than ever, it is crucial that our party and country swiftly unite to defeat Donald Trump," she said.

Joe Biden Officially Drops Out Of Presidential Race

Sunday afternoon, the President of the United States revealed that while he will finish his current presidency, he will be dropping out of the 2024 race. The news comes just days after he tested positive for COVID-19.

“I believe it is in the interest of my party and the country to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president,” Biden wrote in an official letter shared to his X account. “I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work."

“Let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me,” Biden added. “I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can't do - when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America."
