King Charles' strained relationship with his son and daughter-in-law, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has reportedly left him feeling "extremely sad."
Royal author Robert Hardman noted Charles's frustration, saying he has done what he can and is now focusing on his duties as the king.
The news comes amid claims that Prince William, who has taken a "tough and resolute" stance, has not spoken to Harry in over a year due to the duke's bombshell memoir, "Spare."
King Charles Reportedly 'Sad About Harry And Meghan'
According to royal expert and author Hardman, Charles has been entangled in the disputes between the camps of the Waleses and Sussexes since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties and relocated to the US in 2020.
Despite four years passing, the situation reportedly remains challenging for the king, who is presently battling cancer.
Speaking to the Mirror, Hardman said: "Of course, the king is extremely sad about Harry and Meghan, but there is a sense of exasperation, that he has done what he can and now he is king, there are many more things to think about."
The author added that Charles has made efforts to listen and mediate but has now taken a step back, noting that "he has reached a point where he says, 'I don't want to know what the problem is. I'm just getting on with my life.'"
Prince William's 'Tough and Resolute' Stance Against Prince Harry Reflects His Strong Character
The king's alleged comments come after experts suggested that William has taken a "tough and resolute" stance regarding his strained relationship with his brother, Harry.
Royal expert Jennie Bond suggested that William found it easier to distance himself from Harry rather than be "continually annoyed" by him.
She told OK! Magazine, "William has always been a strong character. I think his broken childhood made him tough and resolute."
Bond noted that William, now known for his stubbornness and firm decisions, has taken on the role of the "enforcer" within the royal family following the deaths of their grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
"He is definitely someone who commands respect within the family and whose views hold considerable sway," she said of William.
She added: "Obviously, as heir to the throne, his word carries a lot of weight in the family and I think it's true that he has been prepared to take a tough stand on several issues, including [Princes] Andrew and Harry."
Prince William 'Adamant' About Excluding Prince Harry After 'Spare' Memoir Revelations
According to royal expert Michael Cole, William has not spoken to Harry in over a year, and their relationship was further strained by the release of Harry's memoir, "Spare," in January 2023.
During a chat with GB News, Cole stated that William is "adamant" about not allowing Harry back into the royal fold.
"There's going to be no softening of his adamantine response to what he's done," the expert said.
He explained, "He's done the unthinkable. In this life, most men can put up with insults, it happens. You get insulted. What they cannot put up with are two things that they cannot abide by. Their driving ability, and they certainly cannot allow their wife to be criticized."
Royal Expert Slams Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Response To Kate Middleton's Cancer Diagnosis
Despite reports that Harry and Meghan sought reconciliation talks with the royal family, a reunion seems unlikely.
Cole claimed, "Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have made no secret of their disdain for Princess Kate."
He criticized the couple's response to Middleton's health struggles, suggesting they could have sent a more personal message.
"Even when her cancer was diagnosed and she announced it herself, the message they sent was sort of a mealy-mouthed thing," he stated.
Kate first revealed her cancer diagnosis in a prerecorded video in March. Following the news, Harry and Meghan issued a supportive statement to their estranged sister-in-law, saying, "We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they can do so privately and in peace."
The Duchess Is Reportedly 'Remorseful' Over 'Bad Blood' With The Princess Of Wales
Meghan and Kate did not have the best relationships, even in the years before the former's marriage to Prince Harry.
The former actress notably had a fallout with the Princess of Wales over flower girls' dresses at her wedding to Harry, and their relationship has soured further ever since they resigned from their royal roles and made bombshell accusations against the royal family.
According to royal expert Hilary Fordwich, Meghan is "remorseful," but the damage to her relationship with Kate may be irreparable.
"Meghan Markle is purportedly remorseful… Well, one would hope," Fordwich told Fox News. "It's just being spread that she doesn't want any bad blood. … Of course, she wants and needs some sort of reconciliation… [But] Meghan Markle has a long way to go for Kate to ever see an upside for the royal family or the public in a reconciliation."
